Am I in the wrong demographic to learn boxing?

I am 25 years old, 5'8", weighs about 125 pounds.

Tired of being skinny for my entire life, I joined a boxing gym today hoping to become healthier, gain some weight, and well, learn the sport which I admired for a long time.

I am a hard gainer with fast metabolism. I plan on M/W/F boxing training, and maybe do weight training on T/TH with diet (5-6 meals with protein shakes etc)

Since boxing isn't weight training (I may be wrong here), I am afraid I will lose even more weight.

I apologize if I am just talking rubbish, but I genuinely want to hear from people who are way way more experienced in this field than I am.

All the answers are in your own head mate, any shape and size can fit in, but if your not cut out for it eventually, its ok move on, If you fall into it and love it, whatever you do, just make sure you enjoy what you do.

The only trouble you would get is if you had arms that were only two feet long but even then your brain could fix that problem for you in the ring by dissecting distance adjusting footwork and disrupting their arms as you moved into your own distance ;) Nothing can stop any of us.

You sound like you will be very fast with nothing much to stop you moving very freely and you should have a good reach if your arms from finger tip to finger tip are around the same length as you are from head to toe, Don't pack on false weight to fast with products or body building it will work against your natural speed which will be one of your best assets, just relax into it enjoy yourself and see how you go for while first.

Boxing is a fantastic way to shed unwanted fat, but it is not an effective method of gaining mass.

If you do begin boxing your caloric intake or your basal metabolic rate will rise and you will be required to increase your intake of foods.

You can gain wieght while boxing but boxing isnt goin to put mass on you, besides maybes a little in your legs and shoulders. If you want to be a boxer, you wont want extra wieght. I was trying to gain wieght about a year ago and got up to about 187 or so. I am back down to 170 or so now and feel much better moving around in the ring. I like bulk but I like boxing better. There are better wys to put on bulk and adjust to it in the ring than the way i did it im sure, but no matter what the more wieght you have you will slow down. I would rather workout for power and speed and not worry about bulk.

If you have love for the sport, get busy and see where it takes you. If you are looking to bulk up, pursue that sort of program. Sandy Saddler, Alexis Arguello, Little Red Lopez were all of similar size/weight as you...good company.
