On Friday, January 28, 2011, Golden Boy Promotions flew out former three-time world champion, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (28-1-1, 18 KO's), to discuss his future with the company. The potential April 9th bout between future Hall of Famers, Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales is not officially signed, so Guerrero has made clear to GBP that he'd be willing to step in and fight either one.
"I've come to the realization that Marquez absolutely Wants NO Part of Me," said Guerrero. "I'm His MANDATORY and he's choosing to fight Morales. I don't want to hear any nonsense that I don't have a big enough name, or that he's not going to make the money he wants fighting me. I'm a three-time world champion, I've fought on national TV numerous times, and more importantly I believe this is a fight the fans want to see. So I'm not going to wait around for Marquez, I'm just going to move forward with my career, and strive for that fourth world title. I take him AVOIDING Me and NOT Willing to Fight as a victory... IF Morales wants to step in the ring then please send me the contract."
Bob Santos, manager for Guerrero went on to say, "Let me clear the air. Guerrero has EARNED the RIGHT to fight Marquez and HBO would get behind this bout. Outside of Pacquiao and Mayweather, Marquez will make more money fighting Guerrero then he would with anyone else. So money isn't the issue. The fact is Marquez knows Guerrero will BEAT him! Honestly, Marquez has become that fighter he's always complained about, when he was avoided by Barrera and Morales. My main objective is to keep Robert busy. He'll be fighting in April on HBO, and Richard Schaefer foresees him fighting again in June.
Guerrero feels the meeting with Golden Boy was exceptionally positive. "Their goal is to keep me active," stated Robert. "They said my next fight will be on April 9th, RegardLess what the OutCome is with Marquez and Morales. I'm seeking the biggest fights out there".

Gotta give him credit for trying to talk his way into a big fight - but JMM slaughters him.

Yeah good on guerrero trying to get the fight, but jmm sure as shit isn't scarred of him. I would much rather see this than jmm-morales, I think this could be a pretty decent scrap with jmm winning a ud or a late stoppage, as long as he doesn't become old...

Guerrero? The last I saw of him he woosed out with a head butt on live television after a couple of rounds. Why should Marquez fight him? I certainly have little interest.

Once again I agree with Miles. Guerrero isn't really relevent enough for a fight with Marquez. Much as I dislike the Morales fight, it presents him with way more money than a fight with Guerrero. I should say that I've never really been that impressed with Guerrero.

I like Guerrero more than Morales as an opponent. That's for sure. I was down on Guerrero after the Daud Yordan mishap, but he's strung together four wins since that fight, one of them being over a faded Casamayor, so, he's doing what he needs to do to stay busy until he lands a big fight like Marquez. How about calling out Soto or Rios or Kastidis?

I predicted Daud would hand him his ass and ok, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he couldn't continue...
Why not rematch him?
Daud would have beaten him and would beat him.
Guerrero for me is an average boxer who has 2 decent names on his resume. But nothing special and that's Casamayor who was clearly past his best days and Klassen who was a title holder.
Why the fuck would JMM be scared of you?
Fight someone of noteriaty and then come see him.
Your still fighting the Escobedos & Arrietas of the sport... Please!
I'd like to see Guerrero get past someone like Soto, Antillon, Linares or even DeMarco.

So just to clear things up, Casamayor got old after Marquez? That was a pretty close fight up until the stoppage. Guerrero kind of dominated, but didnt get a ko. JMM isnt scared of him, thats for sure. He may be scared of how little money he would make. Guerrero does IMO need one more big name then he can expect a JMM fight.

He needs to fight someone asap, Katsidis is the only one of those guys that doesnt have a fight lined up. I'd add in Funeka, Demarco, or Linares. those are all legit opponents.
