Ray Leonard as a Commentator...
Just watching some old Tyson fights from the 80's... Kinda needed to watch some Heavyweight brutality you know?
So anyway, I'm watching Tyson & Briggs go at it, Briggs doing his best Ali impression etc... and it I suddenly became aware of how good Ray comes across as a commentator.
Now this is the mid 80's so Ray can only be what... 30, at the most?!
I dunno, it just surprised me... Should be doing this kinda work this day surely?

He actually was a long time commentator for HBO for like 13 or 14 years starting from the late 70s before he fought Benitez for a title. I've always liked him because he really knows what he's talking about plus he's a pretty good speaker compared to say Lennox Lewis or George Foreman.

he just sounds very smooth and breaks down the action without trying to take the spotlight away from the fighters themselves, unlike Lewis
Re: Ray Leonard as a Commentator...
My favorite Ray Leonard moment, behind the mic, was when he claimed to have invented the "bolo punch."
Re: Ray Leonard as a Commentator...
Leonard was a good commentator better than some of his comebacks against Comacho and Norris.
