Why the heavyweight boxing scene is on life support?
Sure, Denis Boytsov and Robert Helenius have fine and undefeated records, but who have they fought? Fighting against the likes of Vinny Maddalone, Robert Hawkins, Mike Sheppard, Attila Levin (!), and a shot and half-blind Lamon Brewster—not to mention the other usual suspects and unknowns—does little to console me that the division has much of a future. And one week before Solis is dispatched, another so-called “Cuban sensation” by the name of Glendy Hernandez fights in Florida. Puleeeezzzze.
But when all the hype and dust is cleared away, only three men (David Haye and the Klitschko brothers) really generate any excitement and really count in the current heavyweight scene. The rest are churning in a downward swirl (if not spiral). Names like Austin, Johnson, Solis, Povetkin, Chagaev, Thompson, David Rodriguez (with his dismal Lamar Clark record), Gomez, Chambers, Valuev, and Dimitrenko keep on popping up but when they are given their chance, they fail miserably. Too short David Tua is getting too long in the tooth to provide any meaningful competition and his 2010 draw with aging Monte Barrett does little to argue with that conclusion. Now Chisora will take his turn at getting savaged, but at least he offers some excitement with his unique brand of biting, butting, and kissing.;D And it does look like Povetkin has finally gotten up enough gumption to take on one of the big three. Look, these guys are simply not compelling. Maybe Arreola (if he is in better shape) and Adamek can ignite some competition, because both come to fight, but regrettably, it is what it is and it’s simply not very much to get excited about.
Yes, the heavyweight boxing scene is on life support. :o

Going by the rest of this forum its because Bruce Lee is apparently dead!
Really though,They are big men these days but they are a soft bunch compared with the old school. It had to happen mate, there just isnt a killer amongst them, non of them have that ' fuk you your going to die in here with me' attitude, that has lead to a whole line of mediocre performances and big men who go in playing it safe.
Re: Why the heavyweight boxing scene is on life support?
Heavies have always been short on skill; a 'great' heavy typically exhibits moves that are nothing special among the lighter weights. I think this becomes more pronounced as heavyweights get bigger.
Re: Why the heavyweight boxing scene is on life support?
it's not on life support. don't you know foreman is making a comeback in June?
Re: Why the heavyweight boxing scene is on life support?
There are no "BIG 3". There are 2 great heavies (the brothers), 3-4 good heavies (Povetkin, Haye, Adamek, Chambers) and some really good prospects like Boytsov and Glazkov. What is making the division look crap, is the lack of good match ups (great and good heavies don't want to fight each other). Still though Heavyweights are better than cruiserweights :)

USA needs a bout of depression that forces them to get out of other crap sports and have hunger in their bellies to feed their kids and family. Here's to a stock market crash tomorrow.

Yes... he's fighting someone by the name of Larry Holmes.
Re: Why the heavyweight boxing scene is on life support?
Heavyweights are overrated.
Re: Why the heavyweight boxing scene is on life support?
HW boxing is on life support because the K brothers are... well, they are brothers. They can't fight each other. Plus they're not Americans.
