When you play "bodys", you don't want to square up so much. Get your left side forward so you aren't so big a target. Learn to roll inside santiago's punches so that he doesn't hit you clean, and then you can punch within his reach and really hit him solidly. That jab is a waste of time in this game; get close, keep your elbows tight to block his punches, then turn your hips to drive your own.
A big part of this game is endurance. Try to keep a steady flow of punches going back at him- I'm guessing that santiago throws lots of punches, or you wouldn't be practicing jabbing and moving- while letting his wrap around you. Don't give him room; moving back makes it easier for hi m to hit you. When you punch back, pick your spots and hit deep in the stomach, under the heart, or the solar plexus. These will slow him down. When you feel him weakening, slowing down, then you punch more.
This is learning how to fight, and, if you want to be toughest, you can't let things get you down. Don't let him throwing more punches unsettle you; turn your body and ride it out and make every one of your's count. I played this game for at least 25 years, and I know what I'm talking about.
