No I dont.
I apreceate his skill but he is efective but very boring.
He pounds his opponents from distance untill they are totaly bashed up before he even considers trying to go for a stoppage.
Efective-YES
Exciting-NO
He makes B-Hop look like Arturo Gatti. 1-2 clinch, 1-2 clinch.
I agree, effective yes, exciting no. I respect Wlad as the HW champ, but the state of HW boxing and a boring as hell HW champ has caused boxing to become a niche sport in America and ignored because of this. Wlad is not entirely to blame but imo he is a big reason why boxing is practically dead in America and is the way it is. The HW division has been said by many historians and knowledgeable fans as being the life line of the sport. And when the lifeline of the sport is on life support no wonder boxing is seemed dead in the country where it once had such a rich history.
It's not dead, it's just not as popular as before. You could ask 10 people at random who the heavyweight champs were, and maybe 2-3 would get one right. Where as back in Tyson days it would be around 6-7 out of 10.
Exciting i'd have to say no. But that hasn't noting to do with wlad. None of these guys are a threat to him, and his fights always end in a ko so he has no need for an extra gear. Short of taking dna from him and his brother and creating some sort of super fighter there isn't much he can do. I know we all want to see more agression and what not, but that's easy for us to say sitting here. When he's 70 sitting on top of a bunch of cash belts and two of david haye's bronzed braids in a case that he knocks off his dome and can still count his abc's and read to his grandchildren he see how smart of a move it is to hit and not get hit. I look at the sport different than most so most won't agree with me i know. I'm one of the one's who could watch a brutal KO or a twelve round decision doesn't matter to me. I like both aspects of the sport. When wlad was vulnerabe and getting beat by the likes of chris byrd no one had a problem with him. Now that he's upped his game to the point where he and his bro stand alone he's hated. Fighting for fans is always a loosing battle. I'd love to see more exciting hw fights but at the same time if i was in thier shoes i wouldn't change a thing.
No I don't. He needs a good dance partner.
that just about sums him up. his physical attributes are a major strength and he used them to full potential - and lets be honest who can blame him :-\
also suffered some massive KO defeats which fuels the argument as to why the hell he shouldn't change his tactics
An absolutely magnificent athlete, always fit and well trained, a consummate professional, a good advert for the sport of boxing ......... but, no, not an exciting fighter. Doesn't 'let it all hang out', there is no drama or electricity when he fights (probably because he is so much better than his opponents)
Bit like Jack Johnson really, easily the best and most dominant pro around and (maybe ironically) we are now clamouring for a Western black hope who will beat him !!!! Just to be controversial, there.
He's not exciting but I like watching functional and simplistic fighters.
I'm convinced that I am witnessing the zenith of sophistication.
I admire his dominance. His fights aren't exciting but then that's because most of Wlad's fights are the warfare equivalent of America taking on the Faroe Islands. It's just a case of routinely taking down the key strategical centres, airfields, power grids (or in the Faroe Isles case, farms and fields) etc from the safety of an offshore aircraft carrier and waiting for the little country to surrender to the inevitable.
If the country resists to the very end we might if we are lucky see the army going in to shoot the one remaning resister and plant a flag, but there are no tanks, infantry battles or anything exciting.
A couple times in the past a brave submarine managed to torpedo the carrier early and win a famous victory but the sonar detection has so vastly improved now that the chances of one getting near are minimal.
I pretty much think the same as most have already said. I like him as a man he comes across very well, and is the consumate proffesional and I respect his game, he's good at what he does. Is he exciting tho, NO. He obviously could be, but why change what's getting you the win at the end of the day. Hayes exciting, but that don't always win u fights.
Wlad isn't exciting but that doesn't mean he's not enjoyable to watch. Its up to his opponents to force him into another gear which people seem to forget that he's got much more than just his 1 2 but his 1 2 is good enoguh to beat everyone; why risk losing if ya can win without barely breaking a sweat and still sell 50000 tix easy. I doubt any one will actually be able to push him into another gear
For a guy with a purportedly exploitable chin he's alright. Takes two to tango and take advantage of that flaw...he can't be faulted for jabbing the life out of them when they try, and in some cases except their fate. Flaws make an exciting fighter, Peter, Sanders, Williamson among others made it so. We keep waiting for someone else to open that jack n' the box chin.
Holyfield is the most exciting hvy I've seen but Holmes, Byrd, Donald, Stewart 2, Valuev fights had me counting the blonde's vs brunettes in the crowd those nights. Yeh I know thats a stretch ;D
