Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
Looking forward to see Burns again, should be a stepping stone for a really big fight later on.
Just watch DeGale cruise past a French tomato can, and now he's dissing "ugly boy" George Groves. Easy fight for Degale and cruised to 5 rounds, really he could have got him out of there in 1 or 2 if he really tried. Adds nothing to the DeGale/Groves debate really, apart from allowing Degale some time to call out Groves in the post-fight interview.
Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
Here we go then. Laryea just spent about 10 minutes between the door and the ring.... I could have walked it in 30 seconds! Fair play to him though, the boos don't phase him!
I reckon if Burns gets on the front foot early doors, he can box his way to a comfortable win, jab jab jab then shots to the body.

Anyone got a stream for this?

Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
Burns doing well enough so far, won the first two rounds. Laryea is trying to come forward and pressure with the jab, but Burns getting success with overhand rights and counter body shots. Decent enough so far.
Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
Burns is doing really well so far, six rounds in and he's got six in the bag I think. Not exactly a blowout though, Laryea is competitive, just isn't working that much, and getting countered when he comes forward by Burns.
Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
I like Burns bodywork, but he throws a real chopping right hand, which is bad form. He also pulls straight back with his head up in the air.
Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
I think the bodywork caught up to him, he was sucking wind in the corner last two rounds.
Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
Laryea quits on his stool after 7. Commentators talking about a broken hand, but I suspect he was being outclassed and he knows it. There goes my Burns UD joker pick in the prediction comp, but well done Ricky, and a reasonable performance to step on towards an unification bout in the summer.

You're thinking of those in porn films who are hard and nailing, and keep cumming all night....
Fair do's though, I'm starting to think that Burns is growing into quite a decent fighter, can deal with different styles, but needs another big win to cement that reputation.

Say two or three years ago when I saw Burns lose to Arthur, and then get beaten by Johanneson, I thought he might be a gatekeeper type fighter that would often end up in eliminators and never quite make it to the main event. I'm chuffed to say I was wrong. Burns has grown into a very good fighter, and I think he can really compete at the very top level.
Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
I like Burns, he always comes across as a nice person and he's become a pretty good fighter. I never expected him to beat Martinez, but he showed then and he's showed since that he deserves the title. He landed some good body shots last night and was completely in control until the stoppage. Hopefully he gets the fight with Fana in the summer and we can see him try to unify the division.
Re: Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea discussion
Good vicotry hope he can unify the title now.
