The significance of Roberto Duran vs. Jorge Fernando Castro II
Have many of you seen this fight ? It is a pretty damn good scrap considering Duran was 45 years old at the time, and Castro was around 30 years old.
I had seen pretty much all of Durans career defining victories, Buchanan, Leonard, Moore, Barkley, but not this fight.
I guess this is considered a real career defining fight for Duran as well, to a lesser extent.
Castro already had a win record of over 100 fights, and was still a contender at the time Duran faced him in 1997, after losing a decision to Castro in their first fight the same year.
Duran gets rocked a few times but he outboxes Castro and wins 6 or 7 rounds and the fight. Pretty damn impressive for being 15 YEARS older than Castro.

Castro could have accomplished more if he is fighting these days.
Imagine having to face future greats Roy Jones Jr. and Terry Norris in your 1st 7 bouts.

Worst thing about that rematch is it got Duran into a title fight with Joppy. That was just terrible to see as he was humiliated and destroyed. Castro was capable and rugged, shit he took rounds from Jirov years later, but was a walking billboard for hometown padding & cooking.

Think Castro coulda done better against Joppy ?
He could bang and in 140 fights, he was only stopped TWICE.
Joppy would be humilated and destroyed years later by Tito Trinidad, then Bernard, then Jermain Taylor. Tho he did survive against the latter two.
Always liked Joppy myself.
