Do you sometimes border into parody?
This is something I suggested in another thread. I really think that sometimes when I post, I am posting as a different character. It is almost like this identity is taking over and it warps things a little. I always tell the truth, I mean my opinions are what they are and they are no secret, but I find myself trying to create a certain ''miles-esque" feel with some of my posts. My thread about the Royal wedding contains a lot of true opinions, but looking back at some of my posts in that thread, I have to sit back and say to myself "come on lad, do you really feel that strongly about it?". I seem to say things with a force that is just too much and is in no way how I would talk one on one with someone. It is in such moments that I wonder whether it is some kind of extension of myself that has been created. No Contest mentioned in my "Military rules" thread (which is of course completely true as well) that I might be some kind of Jekyll and Hyde and to an extent that might be very true. Online I have developed a comfort zone fitting into my persona and fulfilling my role.
This is probably true for a lot of people that have posted a lot online. They keep on posting and find that the posting takes on the guise of some kind of extension of the self. You can say the things that you can't really say at home. On a hidden board of a boxing site you can vent and rage and say it all, but generally speaking in your day to day life everything is quite calm. I probably come across as an angry guy with a chip on his shoulder about everything from god through to Amir Khan, but in reality don't worry or care about it all that much.
I am probably as anyone imagines me, but just very friendly with a pint of beer.
How about you chaps, is everything as it seems?
Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
I don't think that I'm as verbose in speaking as I am in typing. Unless I'm drinking. Also, in person I swear a lot.
Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
I understand exactly what you are saying Miles. You are also bi-winning.

Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
Haha, cheers guys! ;D
I sometimes read back over some of the stuff I post, though only rarely. It is obviously me posting, but I wonder sometimes where that person is coming from. I'm sure we all have multiple layers to our personalities and an internet persona is part of that, but I find it confusing. Looking at the things that annoy you thread anyone would think I was a manic depressive, but I am far from that. I must be bi-winning like Charlie Sheen.
Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
I guess part of it is also because I stick so heavily to politics and documenting the more negative aspects of life. I should really post a lot more positive things to balance it all out, but all that regular stuff is quite boring and nobody would be interested in knowing about my work and what I do around the house.
I guess it leads to an online persona that can seem heavily fixated on particular things and is thus potential parody. I think there are a number of us that do it, but is it parody or is it just you being you? I tend to analyse these things a little bit too much. It doesn't matter really and I will just carry on posting regardless.
I have these little existential moments when I look around and have no idea what it is I am seeing nor have any recognition of who I am.
Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
Im Gomez, theres no doubt.
Standing on my head now crossed legged while typing this.
Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
I understand what you are saying Miles, you know I like you mate; we have had some good chats, you're a top guy. But no I don't.
My life is perfect, if anything I have to under exaggerate. I'm not perfect, but my life is; shit just works out.
Sorry buddy :)
Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
I am indeed an extremely lovely guy. In fact I have decided that I don't border into parody and am just being me. I have my own particular style and though it may breed overfamiliarity at times, this is an inevitable consequence of being an individual with his own quirks and whims. I guess I can be a little too self reflective on occasion and that is just another facet of my personality.
I am a complete stud muffin and that is all I have to say on the issue.
Re: Do you sometimes border into parody?
Actually Miles, I'll stick with you bordering into parody. Your last post on that end of the world thread was a classic example ;)

So you're based on Mars, your band on Saturn, and you're touring the earth?
So much for your commitment to fighting global warming and reducing carbon emissions.

A rockstar needs to go teetotal before he can become an all out Thom Yorke.
