I've been absorbing old boxing 175+ 40's -60's
Nothing great to comment on... Sorry I mean there actually really IS some fantastic fighters around in this period and I would strongly suggest you get into absorbing as much shit from this period as possible but right now I'm not in the mood (bit drunk) to report back, I just need a to ask a quick question:
Did Joe Louis EVER have problems with inside-fighters prior to Rocky Marciano? I mean any kind of problems? Stylistically speaking...
They way he put punches to their targets, even past his prime, was just phenomenal.
But yeah, sorry for a bit of a dick thread. I'm just thinking out loud and kinda hoping someone answers!
P.S How does one guy go from fighting Sugar Ray Robinson in one fight, then fighting Archie Moore in the next... Seems totally unfathomable!

Louis was considered to be very mechanical, early on, kind of a robot. Schmeling beat him by fighting a very tactical fight: Louis dropped his jab, Schmeling had a great right hand and he essentially reduced the fight to a contest between the two. Fighting Louis in close wasn't considered sound because of his fast hands and hard combinations; his methodical footwork led most to believe that staying away was the way to beat him. Thus Conn was considered a real threat.
Fighting Robinson and then Moore...Are you referring to Maxim or Bobo Olson? Each of them fought both, but I don't recall which fought them in succession. If it was Maxim, he also challenged Ezzard Charles for the HW title in the time frame.

This is,as near as I can figure the right answer. About the only guy who gave him trouble trying to get inside I can recall was Arturo Godoy. A crouching, bob and weave, really awkward guy went the distance when they first met. Louis drilled him the second time out. Now that I think about it I guess you could say Two-Ton was a problem, he dropped Louis before Joe nearly killed him. Another awkward, deep crouch fighter.

I'm trying to figure out who went back to back with Robinson and Moore. Bobo Olson? That woulda been late, 1950's. I don't think Joey Maxim did...but maybe he did? Maybe Joe Basora in the early 1940's?

It was Joey Maxim, who, incidentally, worked at the Silver Slipper casino in Las Vegas in the mid 80s. He ran a wheel right inside the door and i was fortunate enough to meet him. But look at who he fought in consecutive fights:
