Which heavyweights would've gone 49-0 if they fought the same opponents as Marciano?
None of the following is aimed at discrediting Marciano, you can't knock an unbeaten record right! He may be the greatest ever, he may be an average champion, but we will never know because his opposition was so shockingly bad!
I reckon there are probably 15-20 Heavyweights who would also have gone 49-0 against Marciano's opposition
Best wins (imo)
Moore - A 40 year old Light Heavyweight who had fought about 180 times
Charles -An over the hill Light Heavyweight veterran of around 100 fights
Walcott - A 38 year old with around 70 fights, who had lost 17 fights already and was well ahead after 12 rounds agains the Rock.
La Starza (plenty of people think he lost their first fight)
Rex Layne - always failed at the highest level
Harry Matthews - amassed a decent record, but beat nobody of note and lost whenever he stepped up.
Lee Savold 89-37-3 - decent fighter
Joe Louis - no comment needed on Louis' condition
He has the worst record of opponents (in terms of their win/loss ratios) of any Heavyweight champion in history and imo definitely operated in the wekaest division ever (even including today's division.
As I said above, he may be the greatest ever, but his resume certainly is not!!

Haha. Seems like the thread is kind of rhetorical to me, I doubt anyone believes there arent at the very least a dozen or so guys who would have clobbered everyone Marciani fought. It's not really worth listing Ali Holyfield, Lewis, Holmes etc. Im of the opinion that Marciano wouldve also gotten creamed against many HW's to precede him. It wouldve been more interesting to ask for a lst of guys who werent really considered great. I personally think even a few contenders or alphabet strap holders from the 80's and 90s wouldve beaten Marciano and anyone hje fought( Tony Tucker, Tim Witherspoon, Golota, Michael Moorer(could easily get Koed though) Razor Ruddock, etc.) I think Marciano was at best on that level in actuality, you put him in with someone like Lennox and its an epic mismatch.

I disagree that Marciano's era was the weakest ever. I would say this era tops it. Name me 1 atg or hof fighter that Wlad the current champ has faced? None. Marciano although faced them when they were past their prime, but at least they still had something left and were ATGs and HOF. Can you say that about Wlad?

FUN question.
Probably Joe Frazier who was a lot like Rocky in terms of his strengths.
Jim Jeffries might have as well and for the same reason.
Sonny Liston would have had a shot.
Joe Louis almost certainly would have
Ali probably would have and likely Larry Holmes as well.
I can find matchups for everyone else I can think of where they likely lose.
But of course this is the land of woulda, coulda, shoulda and therefore carries no real weight.

I agree today's is weaker. So was the division during Dempsey's reign (of course part of that was because he killed a lot of guys before he beat Willard).

All the best heavies in history like Ali, Holmes, Louis and Lennox. Also the lower tier Kilts, Tyson, Holyfield.
Could the Norton, Terrell, Tucker types do it, probably not.

Well alot of the bigger great Heavyweights could, because they've got a ridiculous advantage. In reality its like comparing fighters in different weightclasses.
So to be more fair i'll include the smaller Heavyweights.

There has only been 2 great era's for heavies, 70's and 90's. Every other have been poor to weak.

There has only been 2 great era's for heavies, 70's and 90's.
Every other have been poor to weak.
That's simply not true. From about 1905-1919 you had Jeffries, Langford, Johnson, Wills, Dempsey, Jeanette, McVea and George Godfrey. In the 1940's you had Louis, Bivins, Ezzard, Elmer Ray, Tami Mauriello, and Walcott. In the late 1950's-early 1960's you had Sonny Liston, Eddie Machen, Zora Folley, Ingo, Valdes and Cooper. Each of those three eras were a whole lot better than weak, though of course not the equal of the 1965-1975 zenith.

It's a toss up for me. But saying that Moore, Charles, Louis and Walcott were in Marciano's era is the same as saying Holmes was in Tyson's era or Tyson was in Lewis' era.

that era the fighters were smaller/lighter. its not a fair comparison.
