Margarito may retire, suffering from blurry vision
Quote:
The former two-time welterweight titleholder suffered a fractured right orbital bone (eye socket) during the beating he took in losing a 12-round decision to Manny Pacquiao last November.
Margarito had been mentioned as a possible summer opponent for 154-pound beltholder Miguel Cotto, who he stopped in 11 rounds in 2008, but blurry vision, possibly caused by cataracts, has prevented him from returning to training.
"He's supposed to see an eye specialist tomorrow or on Thursday," Margarito's trainer Robert Garcia told RingTV.com on Tuesday. "We sat down recently and had a really good talk. He told me that if the doctor says his vision in the right eye isn't 100 percent after surgery, he'll retire from boxing.
"He really wants to fight again but he said he has to take care of his health first. I was happy to hear that. He made enough money with the Pacquiao fight to retire and live comfortably if he manages his money right."

This type of damage, the cataracts and detached retina can be repaired easily, but he'll also have problems as he gets older if technology doesn't get better. There is another thing here with all those blows to the head. There is no guarantee that the vision loss comes from the eye damage and 9 times out of 10 they would have told him that.
Re: Margarito may retire, suffering from blurry vision
one may think this is karma for trying to cheat against Mosley and POSSIBLY cheating in other fights. I don't like him but hope he gets better.
And then gets his ass beat by Cotto for good measures ;)
Re: Margarito may retire, suffering from blurry vision
To borrow Marley's...
"We may need a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Prizefighters by Pacquiao!"
Re: Margarito may retire, suffering from blurry vision
I don't wish blurry vision or blindness on anyone, I hope it's temporary and he makes a full recovery.
Re: Margarito may retire, suffering from blurry vision
Didn't Sugar Ray Leonard go through the same thing?
Re: Margarito may retire, suffering from blurry vision
I hope he has to spend ever single dollar he made in his boxing career to make it better.
Then of course once he is broke and no longer has any of the undeserving money he made against Pac since being a cheat....
I then wish him a full recovery. I don't want a negative Karma to change his life...I want him to not be able to make a living off the sport he cheated at. And that last huge pay day that was undeserving I hope goes to hospital bills.

Detached retinas have stopped a lot of fighters, Ray Leonard, Gypsey Joe Harris, Calvin Brock, Julian jackson, David Reid, Harry Greb etc. It's sadly common.

Huh, I would have thought that double vision from a concussion kind of thing would have been accompanied by other symptoms...but I am neither a doctor, nor do I play one on TV.
