Two questions,
should Joe stay retired?
would he beat Ward?
I hope Joe comes back and fights Ward and hopefully Joe is still in the same shape before he retired. I think this would be a very interesting match.
A rematch with Bhop would be good too.

Joe has been retired too long now so do not think he would beat Kessler or Froch never mind Andre Ward.
Prime Joe would have found a way to win.
He has been retired too long, he does keep himself in pretty good shape, but the hunger is just not there, I think he would get beat by most of top dogs if he came back. He has said 10 million and he will come back. ;D
He's been out for too long. It's been over 3 years plus he's nearing 40 years old.
Style wise I think he could beat Ward but like has already been said the hunger is gone but his money has not(as far as I know). So not much chance of a Calzaghe returne.
No he shouldn't come back. He's 39 and has been away for 2 and half years. By his own admission he was slipping, he got out at the right time. I hope he stays retired, there's no need for him to come back
Joe should and will stay retired. He has money and a lack of desire to compete now.
Ward has plenty of options out there and needs to beat Froch and Bute to prove he's the current No.1.
Ugly fight.
Calzaghe should stay retired and Ward would beat him if he came back.
However, a prime Calzaghe would have dominated Ward in an ugly fight.
Calzaghe now would beat every super middle!
He too fit as he trains daily. Ward doesn't have the workrate to beat Joe.
We all know what's he's like when in the ring!!
He would throw a hundred slap/punches per round at ward/dirrell and they don't have that kind of workrate so the answer is there
If Ward fights Calzagnes fight he would lose. If Ward fights his fight and keep a good range while making Joe miss a lot, he'd k.o Joe.
Who knows though but I think it could of been a good fight if Joe stayed active.
Why would he com back all of a sudden to fight Billy goat Gruff? No point, the Calzaghe of 4 years ago outworks him to death though. If Hopkins could only win 3 rounds against Calzaghe, Ward has even less chance. An uglyish fight, but one where Calzaghe's output, handspeed and footwork makes all the difference. Calzaghe is a different league to all these super 6 fighters. Super 6 is great because it is a bunch of guys who kind of matchup well in being a level below the true elite. Calzaghe was a different league.
