Your favorite Boxing Movies, and why?
i liked cinderella man. decent acting, and it was a true story, which makes it even better.
i had no idea who james braddock was. the dude who played braddocks manager was good in that role. "Jes-Sus Christ!" lol.
raging bull is also a classic. deNiro was badass in this one. as was joe peschi.
rocky 1&2 was good, but his incredibly dumb character kinda ruins it. "Hey adrian, why werent cows allowed to cross the road? because they forgot their horns! yooooooooooo!!!"
what are some other ones?
just watched the fighter not bad. i watched that ward/neary fight live on hbo. good scrap.
Re: Your favorite Boxing Movies, and why?
"The Harder They Fall" with Humphrey Bogart.
"The Champion" with Kirk Douglas. I love the last fight, where he's been knocked down. He looks around the ring and sees all the people that loved him, that he alienated, that now hate him, and, just to spite 'em, he gets up and wins. Then goes back to the locker room and dies.

These aren't in any kind of order
Fat City-A spectacularly sad movie based on an amazing novel. Stacey Keach is a washed up pug and Jeff Bridges is an up and comer. The dark part of the sport.
Rocky-Has there even been a dumber, sweeter, more lovable character than Rocky Balboa? Has there ever been a crustier one than Mickey Goldmill?
Body and Soul-John Garfield refuses to let the mob sully his career. "Waddya gonna do? Kill me? Everybody dies!"
The Harder They Fall-Bogey's last role IIRC. The Primo Carnera story writ large. Budd Schulberg masterpiece.
Requiem for a Heavyweight-Anthony Quinn as a nearly punch drunk Mountain Rivera trying to figure out life without boxing. Jackie Gleason is fabulous as his sleazoid manager.

Also a marvelous short story by Ring Lardner. Midge Kelly in the short story is a real bastard.
Re: Your favorite Boxing Movies, and why?
Rocky 4 and the sound track, training scenes are the bomb.
Re: Your favorite Boxing Movies, and why?
Streets of Gold: Love the part where Wesley Snipes tries to punch Klaus Maria Brandauer - and misses repeatedly. The 'why can't I hit this guy?' look was his best acting outside of Blade 2.
Diggstown: The whole movie.
I like the cheese ;D

Diggstown is a BAD movie. But I watch it every time it is on TV. ;)

Same here - and my wife rolls her eyes every time.
Gladiator has to fall in this category, too. Not exactly Brian Dennehy's finest hour, but close!

Don't hit him on top of his head Brian! Yeah that's another one of those.

The Champ?
Remember watching it is a kid and sobbing my heart out when he slaps his son. ;D

I realize I am in an unredeemable minority here, but I thought that was only so-so. Of course I feel that way about much of Scorcese's work.
What the hell do I know?
Re: Your favorite Boxing Movies, and why?
On the Water front...Gladiator (heavy on the cheese but I liked it)...The Great White Hope (J Earl Jones was top notch)...Play it to the bone...Power of one (solid under the radar flick)...and of course The Twilight Zone: Episode with Lee Marvin going against a machine ;D
Might be Blaspheme, but really never got into the Rocky series save for 3,4
Re: Your favorite Boxing Movies, and why?
1. Rocky 1
2. Champion ( Korean Film )
3. Raging Bull
Re: Your favorite Boxing Movies, and why?
Rocky IV and Diggstown.
"Honey" Roy Palmer could whip any 10 men in a single day.
Could see Larry Holmes doing something like that.
