Does money matter to you? How much would you sacrifice?
I have just finished working what has been without doubt the hardest working month of my life. I work long hours sometimes when business is busy, but this month has been another level. During the week for the last month, at least three times a week my day would consist of:
8.30am - get to work
6.30-7pm - finish in office
Eat tea, play with the kids
8pm-1am - work more
Plus working from home for about 4 hours on a Saturday and then again on the Sunday.
So essentially I've had no life, I've sacrificed everything, seeing mates, seeing so much of the kids, seeing the mrs, being on here, playing Xbox. Anything that gives me happiness was put to one side to work as much as I possibly could.
The plan was to sacrifice everything for one month, to set me up hopefully for a large part of my life. So short term pain for long term gain.
The plan worked, I broke all records in work, I earnt more money than I could have ever dreamed of earning in one month and I feel it was justified. The renovation I'm buying should now financially be a doodle and I can buy lots of things we have wanted for ages. New car, TV etc.
Clearly I'm very materialistic, so money matters to me, but I'm wondering what everyone else's views are?
If you had an opportunity to earn more than you ever had before, but had to give up everything for a month, would you do it? Does money even matter to you?
Im now off for a extra long weekend at Butlins to sound some quality time with the family!

After college I worked for fifteen years averaging roughly 75 hours a week and then retired. I did it to buy back the last half of my life.
What money can do that's important is not buy cars, boats, houses etc. It is that it can buy you something far more rare. TIME! Time to spend with loved ones, time to read, time to stay in shape, time to go to the beach, time to travel, tim e to study, time to help others etc. In short time to do whatever you wish.

I think having time to spend with love ones and to do what you love is as important as making money.
I'm about to head back to school for a career with will pay me a middle-class wage at best, but it's important to me to a) do something that I like and that I feel makes a positive difference in peoples lives, and b) to be able to spend time and build a life with my long-time girlfriend. It's all about balance for me.

Money is very important. I mean its your only way to secure your future and ensure your survival. I care about money a lot, if I could work around the clock for a month to do it I would. In the past I worked very hard. I was doing 45 hours a week teaching time, then on top of that prep, grading etc and was working from 10am until 11pm. I did it for nearly 2 years and totally burnt out, but for the first time in my life, I had a bit of money in the bank.
Would I do that again though? Never. But to do it for a month and earn a considerable amount, yes I would do it. You need security and sacrifices must be made sometimes. But these days I don't work that hard and have no real need or desire to. I'm doing okay and even though I only work 3 and a half days a week and could really find more to do, I am enjoying my free time more. I'm learning to have more fun and try new things, the only bad thing is that I appear to have become nocturnal now I'm on holiday.

my aim is to get through life doing as little as possible
its working so far but I still have to get up and go to work each morning which is a real fucking bind

Truthfully most of my entire life is spent at work only couple of hours a day with the kids and wife, only weekend is when you have quality time but that goes way too fast. Then back to work again.
