She is talented though. I quite like her Bon Iver cover although I prefer the rawness of Vernon's guitar to the piano.
She's actually been a big star in the making for a while now since winning some national singing contest a few years ago.
I know she writes her own stuff too so she will probably be releasing some of her own tracks eventually.

Personally I prefer Birdy's version to Bon Iver's, the lyrics are more poignant in hers I feel. Similar to Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt in that respect.
Amazing talent though, Skinny Love is one of my favourite tracks of the year so far.

I just don't get that at all. Justin Vernon took himself off to the woods for a whole winter recording that song, all about the heartache he felt, and you feel more empathy with a 14 year old girl's version? Who broke her heart? Some skaterboard kid from the year above who invited another girl to the prom? That's just bizarre to me.

You misunderstood what I meant. The lyrics are still the same but resonate better in her version - her arrangement does the lyrics more justice. Vernon still wrote the song either way.

I agree with you both. For me, the things I like about songs are when they are personal and have meaning. I don't generally like kids singing about the struggles of life etc... but.....I do prefer Birdy's version of this particular track.

I'll take a troubled bearded man alone in the woods with his guitar over a little girl and her mtv video any day.
Edit - that line sounds wrong, and of course in all other circumstances I'd def choose the little girl.
But I think his version is so much more raw and heartfelt.

Listen to his version and hear how he lets his voice loose control whilst singig the chorus 'I told you to be patient, I told you to be fine' etc. He has so much more passion in his voice and emotion in his voice, you can hear it's real for him. Whereas she sings it very well but far too controlled, wiithout real emotion, at least imo.
She has a great future, but his version is the real deal, whereas hers is the sanitised, tv ready version imo.
Also that album, For Emma Forever Ago is a fucking brilliant album, that's not even in the top 3 best tracks. Flume, For Emma and Stacks are all amazing. amazing songs. In fact in terms of the quality of each track it's one of the very best albums I've ever listened to, OK Computer for example has about 5 tracks I just skip over, For Emma Forever Ago every track is an A list.

Also two utterly gorgeous 19 year old girls have just moved next door to my top floor flat and they rung the bell tonight to ask if they could my Very cataloge that someone had just dropped outside my door. I gave it to them and told them I was going to put some music on in a bit and if they minded and they were like "Nah it's cool because you listen to Bon Iver"
They said they could hear it through the walls and loved it.:)
