I'm in the process of watching 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I can't really compare it to any movie I've seen. My full review is yet to come. I'm sure you'll wait with baited breath.
As far as "old" movies go its unlikely to top the all time great, Chinatown, but I'm enjoying it.
Granted, I've missed a lot of "classics" but this is the thread for that.
I've also never seen The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, but the Korean version, The Good, The Bad, and The Weird, was strangely fantastic.
Cant seem to find the sc button ;D 2001 will take a while yeh.....skip the crappy sequel

Damn guys I've seen pretty much all those movies. All of Kubrik's movies are class!
Now if we're talking specifically classic movies I'm going to have to think a while
-Paths of Glory one of the few Kubrik movies I haven't seen.
I've missed a couple Hitchcock movies but I'll get around to them I'm going to see 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' tonight.

How about movies before the Hayes code was eliminated? I think around before 1968? I just felt that Hollywood back then had more creativity before the gratuitous sex and violence started getting out of hand. I'm not a prude by any means just thought that Hollywood had much better quality of movies from that particular era.Quote:

It's a Wonderful Life - our lass say's this is well worth it, but will wait till xmas time for this one.
Godfather Part III - had not seen any of these till recently, mentioned it to the missus and got the box-set for my b'day, so managed to watch 1+2.
1st off, Matty Casablanca and Its A Wonderful Life are great pictures....Godfather 3? Not so much.
Oh you're spot on the money. Now'a'days you've got gratuitous sex and violence so much so that film makers and directors have all but forgotten that people experience movies by more than just watching them. Great movies make you use your imagination and the lack of special effects made directors think harder about how to shoot something. Look at 'The Public Enemy' (the James Cagney one not the newer movie) Cagney kills Putty Nose in a scene and you never actually SEE the murder but you hear a shot and a scream of pain/terror...its little stuff like that which can spark your imagination wondering how Putty Nose finally bought it.Quote:

I love all the old crime movies...bad guys were bad guys, good guys were good guys, and the actors that played them were great: Cagney, Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Paul Muni, Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum...there's nobody that can touch those guys today.

I made the mistake of trying to watch the Redux version - which was possibly one of the worst and most boring movies I have ever seen - and now I can't make myself watch the original (which is supposed to be great).Quote:

I watched Dr. Strangelove last night and had a big ol' Churchill cigar. Dr. Strangelove is probably the funniest movie I've ever seen bar The Big Lebowski.
