eye injury?
hi guys i got caught in the eye pretty hard at sparring probably about 9 months ago now & im pretty sure it was the lads phumb that hit my eye, it hurt for about 1 minute i couldnt open my eye but it wasnt bad enough to stop sparring it just watered alot then it was fine..
a week later i developed a flashing in the outer corner of my left eye, it started to worry me so i went to the eye infermary and got it checked out hoping to god it wasnt my retina about to detatch! the dr there said theres no problems with my eye and retina is fine but he seemed a bit rushed so a couple of months down the line i thought id get a 2nd opinion as its your eye sight at the end of the day!
anyway the 2nd optician said the same thing no retina damage just dont spar for a a few weeks.. so i didnt,
the flashing has really faded now and its next to nothing but when i get caught in the eye at sparring it comes back and lasts for about a week its really annoying, so i thought i would go and see a opthemoligist and get a professional opinion.. in doing that you need a referal from a optician so off to the optician i went again!
same result no retina damage the optician just said maybe the gel is slightly damaged in your eye wich sometimes causes the retina to tighten very slightly,, any way i got my referall and went to see the opthemoligist he put the drips in and stuff and he said exactly the same thing possible damage to the gel wich may cause the retina to tighten slightly causing the flashing but he said it nothing to worry about and that boxing wont be a problem!
great news im over the moon as i thought this could be bad but i dont no why im still worried im gona damage it ive had 4 out of 4 eye drs say that theres no problem there and sometimes when the flashing comes back theres a very very little strain in the eye and it just worrys me but hey ive made the effort to see 4 DRs and theyve all said go for it
reason for the thread (sorry its such a long rant!) but has anybody had any experience of this as im suprised how rare it is ive posted on other boxing forums and havent had anybody with a similar problem??
thanks in advance!

Re: eye injury?
Were any of them Retina specialist? Eye doctors "optometrist" are a common. They are like GP doctors. I don't want to scare you but If your still have a problem, don't wait to see a specialist because the longer a problem exists with the retina, the more difficult it can to repair. When it comes to your vision it's better to be safe than sorry. I take my wife's dad to see a retina specialist every three months and one every 6 months to the optometrist because his eye's are getting worse.

hi mate thanks for the reply, yea exactly my thoughts eye sight is very important! the last guy i saw the opthemoligist was a retinal specialist aswell i had to pay privately to have a consultation with him and he did say the retina was totally normal

Re: eye injury?
If that's the case, you're probably fine or at least the problem would most likely be minor and heal itself over time.
