Not just Haye doing crazy interviews,,, queue Amir Khan
Floyd's 'a chicken' says Khan | Sky Sports | Boxing | News
Amir Khan has called Floyd Mayweather Jr "a chicken" who has avoided both him and P4P king Manny Pacquiao.
Khanhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif is hoping to face 'Money' in the near future, while a megabucks fight between Floyd Jr and Pacquiao has been boxing's holy grail for the last two years.
Khan says Mayweather Jr, who faces Victor Ortiz in Las Vegashttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif on Saturday night, is terrified of losing his perfect unbeaten record, which currently stands at 41-0.
He told The Sun: "In my opinion, Mayweather is a chicken. He is doing everything to avoid me just as he did everything to avoid fighting Manny Pacquiao.http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif
"I don't want to sound cocky or arrogant but I believe the real reason for Mayweather avoiding me is that he knows I have his number. Mayweather knows if he ever fights me his 0 will go.
"All Floyd does is pick fights that he knows he will win. I thought world championship boxing was about proving who is the best but if he keeps turning his back on me how can he still say he is the best?"
Khan has a potential mandatory world title defence against Lamont Petersonhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif coming up, and says that could be his last fight at light-welterweight before moving up to welter and the likes of Mayweather and Pacquaio.
Talk is cheap
Amir claims that Floyd Jr isn't the only fighter currently trying to avoid him.
"I will fight anyone put in front of me but there seems to be a lot of boxers who talk a good fight but when push comes to shove they won't get in the ring with me," he added.
"Tim Bradley was offered fortunes to fight me for his IBF title but it never happened and now he has been stripped of his belt.
"Erik Moraleshttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif was offered a fight against me but he is now saying he won't be ready for me until next year.
"I must admit it is all very frustrating as I try to unify the world titles. All I can do is fight whoever is put in front of me but there is an increasing small number willing to do just that."
Coming from the sun i'm not sure how much to believe, but oh my!

I don't like Amir Khan but he has a point.
Re: Not just Haye doing crazy interviews,,, queue Amir Khan
About Mayweather avoiding him?
Re: Not just Haye doing crazy interviews,,, queue Amir Khan
Well Floyd is avoiding Pac, that much is true with his recent contradiction.
I think, in a years time when the fight would be staged, Amir would have more than a good chance of beating him. Won't Floyd be 35 nearly 36 then? Would be very surprised if an aging Floyd would get in a ring with Amir Khan coming into his prime. Can't see him risky his '0' so late on in his career. He only took the fight with Ortiz because he is obviously very sure, like the rest of us, that he will beat him.

To me he's implying Floyd is avoiding him right now, which I think silly.

I think you have misinterpreted it seeing as Khan has always made it clear he won't be ready for Mayweather (if he ever will be) until the end of 2012.

I dont see how this is a crazy interview or statement. Floyd is joint top of the tree in Khan's weightclass, so calling him out isnt crazy, it's the right thing to do.
If he didnt then he would be the chicken and the one avoiding the hardest fight out there for him.
I think Khan would jump at the chance of fighting Floyd early next year, doubt Floyd would do the same.

Hates me to say it but one thing you can't take away from Amir Khan is he will fight anyone. A lot of people have been ducking him lately - that you can't deny.

No need to mention that great deal of british boxers are local mediahyped braggers. Even when they have been beaten more or less badly. Khan, Haye, Froch...and more are coming.

I'm glad he is moving up to WW... He is set on being a real superstar if he can make a noise at that division. I'd love to see him fight Mayweather or even Cotto. He'll probably fight Mosley 1st though...
Is there anyone older? Maybe someone retired with a big name he can pad his resume with?

I just read Golden Boy have signed Devon Alexander, wonder why, I straight away thought maybe this is a move for a fight with Khan at 147 early next year as a warm up fight for a clash with Mayweather in the summer.
