Does Ortiz have a chance?
We all know Ortiz has shown weaknesses in the past and Mayweather does not seem to have any standout weaknesses.
All Mayweather has shown is that being a boxer he will get caught occasionally but he has always done whats needed to win he has won some close decisions and some people feel he was lucky against Castillo and even DLH. He is undefeated though and as he says there is no known way to beat him yet.
What i want to know then is has anyone seen anything in any of Ortiz's previous fights to make them think he has a chance? What has he got that can trouble Mayweather?
He is aggressive, he has shown he has a lot of heart, he can come back from knockdowns, he is naturally bigger, he is the puncher in the fight.
His weaknesses have been well documented.
If Ortiz has any chance he has to stay switched on for every second of every round and not lose focus and become disheartened when he is fighting an uphill battle.
So is a Ortiz win possible? I only write this post as 17 writers on secondsout.com pick PBF and not a single person see a way for Ortiz to get the W. Wow.
The thing is 3rd fight in 4 years! his 2 previous fights were Marquez (so so much smaller) and Mosley (so so old) At the time people gave his opponents a chance that's fine but in reality they turned out to be mismatches.
Could Mayweather have gone in to decline without knowing and maybe it could be a tough fight against a big strong 24 year old to make him and the rest of the world realise this?

In June 2005 I spoke to Arturo Gatti and Buddy McGirt on a conference call just before his fight with Floyd. I was working for a site called rabbitpunchboxing.com and was assigned to call in at that conference. Buddy and Arturo were saying the strategy they were going to beat Mayweather with was called "Hacoona Matata" whereby Gatti was going to try to hit Floyd right behind the left ear whenever he did that shoulder roll thing. Dont know why McGirt called it "Hacoona Matata" if thats slang for that part behind the ear or what. I spoke to Buddy first and then asked Arturo if it was true. He said yes, they were going to hit ANY AVAILABLE TARGET---hips, elbows, biceps, behind the ear, to try and inflict any kind of pain and slow him down. The problem was Floyd was so goddam fast, Gatti couldnt touch him anywhere, Hacoona Matata or anywhere else for that matter.
Now we're hearing Ortiz will try the same thing---hit any target legal or borderline-legal. I think despite the 6 years that have elapsed since Floyd's fight with Gatti, that Floyd hasnt really lost much speed if any, and that Ortiz will suffer the same fate as Arturo, who quit after 6. In fact Gatti had a better chin so Ortiz prob wont make it past 4 or 5 and will quit in the same fashion he quit against Maidana.

Cool story. Yeah Gatti's chin was better but surely Ortiz is a better fighter than Gatti? That was an awesome performance from Mayweather but i reckon Gatti was the perfect opponent to make PBF look that good.
I dont think we'll be seeing Ortiz quit not after the criticism he received for the Maidana fight he wont want to go through that again.

TRUE, I think youre right in that Ortiz was already labelled by our "fave" (:rolleyes:) Max Kellerman as a quitter after Maidana, and he doesnt or CANNOT afford to reinforce that label by quitting again. But Mayweather has that knack for sapping his opponents' will, simply and psychologically by nullifying any goddam thing they try. So even if Victr refuses to quit, I think Floyd can still make him quit, sadly. As for Ortiz being a better boxer than Gatti youre prob right, poor Arturo was just at times a brawler whereas Victor seems to have a bit more sophistication at times (?), though Gatti did show flashes of great movement and great jab early in his career (versus Patterson, Robinson, etc.). I liked Gatti so much its hard to say he wasnt as good as Ortiz :) I KNOW Gatti's chin was better than Ortiz!!
