Cortez CLEARLY says "Let's go"
Found this video on youtube, clearest one I've seen that shows Cortez had restarted the fight with time to spare, pretty much clears that up imo. Ortiz has no one to blame, Cortez definitely didn't say "break" before Mayweather clocked him.
Starts with some headbutts but after the point deduction He says it at about :36 seconds, and whoever made the video repeats the part just to make sure he then backs off and lets the fighters fight and asks the timekeeper if the bell had rung yet to make sure the round was still happening he got a yes obviously after the knockdown cause he started counting. But he also started the fight as clear as day so I don't know where Ortiz felt that Cortez was breaking them apart.

Re: Cortez CLEARLY says "Let's go"
yep, you cant blame mayweather
Thats the first time ive watched the KO since saturday night, i was a bit drunk then but at the time i thought Ortiz had bailed, he didnt look that hurt to me
watching it again i havent changed my opinion, he was Knocked over yes but there was nothing limp about his body
i think he saw a way out and took it
Re: Cortez CLEARLY says "Let's go"
teamortiz's smiles says it all.
Re: Cortez CLEARLY says "Let's go"
Yep, I heard it too.
All those complaining about Floyds unsportsmanship, what was he supposed to do, go over and lean his back against the ropes looking aimlessly around and wait until Ortiz decided he wanted to participate in a fight again?
I dont see many people complaining about Ortiz headbut?
I think it was a stupid plan by Ortiz and his team to foul Mayweather to stop the action and any momentum that Floyd was building. Much like the pittyfull tactics Mosley used of touching Pacquiaos gloves after Manny threw a shot to stop him getting too agressive.

Are you for real? Mate no dis respect but I nearly disagree with 99% of what you say, and I think I am quite clued up with most things in boxing, you really think Ortiz wasn't hurt and took the shot as a way out? WOW!! I think you must still be drunk mate if you think he wasnt hurt from that knockdown. :-\
Re: Cortez CLEARLY says "Let's go"
You cant blame Floyd at all, lets not forget 30 seconds earlier he was nearly getting his head taken off with a fully blown head butt. I think people have over reacted because unfortunately if ended the fight, I bet you any money if no real damage was casued and Ortiz got up and carried on the same people saying Floyd is a cheat disgrace etc etc, would say Ortiz deserved it for what he did with the head.
I think alot of people were pissed as the fight was just hotting up and even though Floyd was mostly in control it was competitive.

What are you on about? I havent said I didnt think he was hurt??
I said, or I meant if its not obvious enough for you is that Ortiz fouled Mayweather to get a break in the action to stop Mayweathers increasing momentum. He bulled him to the ropes with the sole intetion of ramming his head in Floyds face, not to throw any punches.
Ortiz was just too stupid to reme, ber that the fight still goes on after the break.
A real foul is when Lacy put Reid down for the first time in his career!
Edit! What a cock I am, I, for some reason thought that was at my reply, rather than delete it, ill be a man and leave it there and appologise for my behaviour!

Haha, your right!
I will say though that I thought Ortiz was going to give Mayweather a tough time. floyd caught him with some nice right hands and Pacquaio would not have stood up to them. Ortiz seems to be huge! How he ever made Light welter is beyond me, he was 17 pounds more than the limit, that helped him absorb Floyds shots. I dont think this fight has made Roach any keener to see his little gravy boat fight Floyd because then the real big money fights are gone! Theyd have to build him up and to be honest while the are other easier bouts to make cash from that is what Pacquiao will do. The fight has been made in to a massive event over the past 2 years and it would never live up to the hype. Youd finally see why Manny wouldnt take the tests and stalled and stalled!
What Marquez has left we are still to see but if Manny struggles yet again with him after Floyd did as he pleased with him 18 months ago it will take the lustre off any proposed bout anyway.

This is the false premise/straw man that all of the commentary starts with. As far as I know, no one -- not in any of the posts on this site, not among the HBO commentators, not in emails in to The Ring -- is saying that what Floyd did was illegal. Everyone accepts that he was within the rules. That's not the point.
The point that's being made is that, despite being legal, it was a classless and gratuitous move. I have always been a bigger Floyd fan than a Manny fan just because I prefer slick, technical boxing to a less disciplined brawler style. But there's absolutely no way Manny (or Sergio Martinez or Nonito Donaire or either Klitchko, or anyone else on the P4P list) would have hit a guy who was obviously in the middle of apologizing. Hopkins is the only other elite guy I can even imagine doing that.
And I totally agree that Ortiz was way in the wrong for the butt, which was insane. But he got his point deduction. And the butt was obviously a move from a young, excitable guy who was caught in a bigger moment than he could handle; it was clear from how intent on profusely apologizing he was afterward that it was not a premeditated, mean-spirited move, however totally objectionable. Whereas Floyd's sucker-punch was a calculated dick-move. I mean, I'm sure he was justifiably pissed about the butt, but it wasn't a heat-of-the-moment type thing.
I basically come down where Lampley did. Sure, it was legal; but if you think you're an all-time great, why stoop to that rather than get your revenge by dominating Ortiz in the remainder of the fight, skill versus skill?
I'm sure he's happy with it in the end because it makes him that much more infamous, WWE villain-style, and probably translates into more PPV buys next time out. Which is definitely what the outburst with Merchant was about too.
