In case anyone cares, Pirog comes out of obscurity to fight again this weekend
Against Gennady Martirosyan. Knowing Pirog, he will beat Martirosyan and then go right back into obscurity.

I really thought we would see more of Pirog after the Jacobs fight. I mean he comes to Las Vegas, fights on the JMM-Diaz undercard and KO's up and coming Daniel Jacobs. I thought for sure he would try to fight someone like Andy Lee, or similar caliber. But no, he goes back to Russia and fights a couple of times. It's not like he's 24 years old, this guy is 31. While that's not old i thought for sure he would try to capitalize on the Jacobs win somewhat.

Yes seems an odd one with Pirog, not as if he is a young guy either.

I hope he fights someone good next time.. He needs to stop living off the Jacobs victory and stop chasing Martinez.. He needs to earn his shot to face the top dog and beating Jacobs isn't gonna cut it..
I hope he faces Peter QUillin... QUillin kicks his ass.

Quillin v. Pirog wouldn't be bad, but to be honest, Quillin needs to climb the ladder and earn this title shot at 160. He seems a nice enough guy but it is a little annoying to hear him calling out Sergio Martinez all the time when he's only had one fight at 160 and won't face Ishe Smith because Ishe Smith doesn't do anything for him. :p Pirog v. Geale, Pirog v. N'Jikam, Pirog v. Golovkin, Pirog v. Proksa/Sylvester. Those are all good fights for Pirog. He's had enough staying busy fights for now. Face someone real or he becomes another home country protected fighter.

Pirog brutally broke down Gennady Martirosyan over 11 rounds.

Good match up for Pirog but he can fight a little. I like Quillin but he has to fight somebody. I don't see those 2 facing off but it would be nice.
Re: In case anyone cares, Pirog comes out of obscurity to fight again this weekend
just watched this fight after ready about how pirog brutally broke down martirosyan...
it was brutally boring.
i thought pirog was supposed to be good. it looked like the way my brothers and i used to fight...pulling punches and arm punches thrown super slow so as not to hurt your opponent/brother.
i don't think he'll be beating anyone of consequence if this is the competition he's seeking at 31.
its embarrassing to watch! go ahead and try.
Re: In case anyone cares, Pirog comes out of obscurity to fight again this weekend
Watching that clip makes me think maybe Jacobs just wasn't/isn't that good(haven't seen him since losing to Pirog). The way Pirog squares up and throws arm punch combos is almost cartoonish or something, looks like he's doesn't actually turn anything over to me.

Pirog looked stylish in the Jacobs fight even if Jacobs wasn't/isn't that good. Martirosyan kept the fight on the inside because he is much shorter, I think that may be why Pirog's punches looked like arm punches or at least somewhat.
Pirog still needs a big fight now. Another defense like this and I think we can write him off completely.
Re: In case anyone cares, Pirog comes out of obscurity to fight again this weekend
I just don't remember Jacobs actually doing a lot in that fight, Pirog probably looked so much better when he had that kind of space to get set. He has some slick moves and I liked watching him that night.... This one has me thinking he really can't do much on the inside and is nowhere near as tricky as I thought. Guess we'll see.

Well, he plans to be ringside for Martinez v. Barker, which means if Martinez emerges victorious that match could happen in the future.

Armin, I, for one, believe the middleweight division is actually underrated right now. People jump on it for being weak, but it has: Sturm, Geale, Proksa, Golovkin, N'Jikam, Martinez, Macklin and Barker.
Re: In case anyone cares, Pirog comes out of obscurity to fight again this weekend
Haven't seen a few of those guys Rant.. But would you give anyone a realistic chance to beat Martinez? That's a pretty crucial element of a strong division, and I think Martinez is bounds above everyone else even though not as great as people think imo. Sure as hell couldn't see Sturm Barker or MAcklin having a hope.. I mean I'd put Mayweather as a favourite over anyone currently fighting there save for Martinez, and I don't think he belongs at 154 let alone 60.. Hell I'd give Cotto a decent chance to win a strap moving up and he's a blown up Junior welterweight with a lot of wear on him. Considering what a great middleweight can/should be, I think the division is definetly crap.
