Boxing Triple-Header in Puerto Rico

Good night of boxing here in Puerto Rico. Juan Manuel Lopez and "Rocky" Martinez each made successful comebacks from having lost their championships and undefeated records, and each won by TKO. But I thought the most impressive victory belonged to another local fighter named Jonathan Oquendo. He KO'ed Mexican fighter Jose Luis Araiza with a textbook left hook in the 2nd round. Could've been a candidate for KO of the year, had it been a major fight.
Personally, while I'm glad JuanMa won, I still think he needs to work on getting his defense and his speed back. He needs to make some adjustments, or IMO he could face the same fate in a rematch with Orlando Salido.

I'm glad he won, but IMO he hasn't learned anything from the loss, he still went out there guns blazing and going all out for the KO, if it were Gamboa instead of Oliver throwing the barrage of punches with Lopez on the ropes I'm damn sure it would have been a 1st round TKO, he needs to go back to the basics and go back to his more technical style, he showed flashes of it against Luevano then has reverted back to just throwing power shots
IMO although the fans love it, Juanma shouldn't fight in PR, he lets the fans and his emotions overtake him and just goes for the KO, if he follows suit against either Salido or Gamboa he'll get KO'd

Agree wholeheartedly. Oddly enough... he's a much better technician and calculating fighter (not as emotional) when he fights OUTSIDE of Puerto Rico.

Juanma still hasnt fixed his trigger happy ways. After the salido loss and those criticsmss that followed, one would have figured that hed get some rounds in against oliver and show some boxing ability and patience. Well hes still the same guy and if he fights that way with salido, he will lose agaiin.
Juanma is like a 90s barrera and chico. He does have the boxing ability yet he chooses to fight cuz thats who he is by nature.

He needs a trainer who can straighten him out. Problem is... if you've got no one to tell you what you're doing wrong, you're unlikely to correct it. Looking back, I wonder if his early string of 1st-round KO's did him more harm than good. Sure, he packs a KO punch... but sometimes you need more than that. And it's not like he doesn't have the tools. He just needs to get back to basics.

Yup.. He needs to go back to the roots because he does have the fundamentals.
THose early knockout victories did effective him in a bad way.. It gave him a false sense of security and got him to buy into his own hype as a knockout artist.. IT all started after the Deleon fight..
WHen he was a prospect, he fought with more composure. He was hungry back then so he did what he had to do to climb up the ranks but he's now become somewhat lazy imo.. He'd rather blast his foes outa there instead of working his way to a victory..
He needs another loss and a new trainer.. Maybe that'll wake him up.

I don't think it's a matter of laziness... I just think he's going on the wrong path without anybody to steer him correctly.

IMO it's due to the fact that he still thinks that his power is going to get him through everything, that no matter what he'll get the KO, he's not relying on his boxing IQ anymore and just on his power, he used to break his opponent down systematically and then blow them out with his power, now he just tries to blow them out the water
