Derry Mathews was pissing the fight

Derry was on the way to beating Gavin Rees. Many people on here slagged him off as a no hoper. So may I say what knobheads you are for doing so.
He easily won the first 2 with the 3rd and 4th looking fairly equal. Rees was getting really puffy around the eyes, and was a hairs breath away from being deducted a point for low blows.
Get off Derrys case he doesn't claim to be the best, but seriously believes his old training technics were not good for him.
I used to think he was crap, but don't any more, as since he changed trainers he's much better.
Hope he twats Rees in the rematch but Rees will, I guarantee will NOT give him a rematch because he knows he will lose.

I was ringside at the fight and the general opinion was that Rees was the fighter getting better when it was stopped.

A rematch is a domestic fight I think we would all want to watch.

i agree with this, matthews started better but rees looked much stronger by the time it was stopped

having said that it was only 4 rounds and could have very easily have swung back the other way in the next round

Poxy ending cost me £100 in cold blood.

And I have no doubt Rees would have stopped Matthews.

I agree that Rees would have stopped Matthews, Derry had a decent run, but when he steps up in level unfortunately he comes up short. Personally, I'm not convinced that a rematch would add much for Rees, who should have his eyes set higher than Derry anyway.

I still think Mathews was the happier of the two, Mathews was not wasting punches and seems to have the ability to counter punch at range and then follow up with a flurry of his own.
Rees was due to get a point deduct as well, I still say Mathews won the first 2 comfortable with the 3rd even I also had the 4th evenly matched. That stil would have made Mathews 2 rounds up going into the 5th, then the inevitable point deduction, plus Rees reputation for being wankered after 8 rounds.
Sorry Derry would have won that fight, and Rees will NOT give him another shot coz he knows he'll get beat.
He will relinquish the title to concentrate on a world title shot, and good luck to him if he does.

One thing I will say about Derry Mathews was I was very impressed the way he cooled his own fans down when they started hurling abuse and insults at Gavin Rees when he got out of the ring.Things could have got nasty but fair play to Derry,top man.
