Enough of the "This hurts Boxing" talk
Every time something controversial or outside the lines occurs during a boxing event, out comes the same, cliched "black eye on boxing" type remarks, when you can argue that it actually brings even more interest to the sport.
When Tyson attacked Lewis, it's hard to deny that that melee didn't draw more attention to their fight months later. Same can be said about Floyd's ko of Ortiz. This only adds fuel to the fire for Mayweather haters to see him "get beatdown by Pac" in their inevitable matchup.
Controversy has always been part of the sport.

Of course it's not good for the sport. Some controversy might be help sell one particular fight or fighter but it does absolutely nothing to attract casual fans and get them watching more boxing.
Do you think last night's shambles will encourage more people to watch Nonito Donaire next week?

Not that I understand you exactly, but I think my answer is "No, I don't think Bernard Hopkins hurts boxing, even if I do recognize some wiley old veteran tricks that cause even his fans to shake their heads at him once in a while."
He's tricky and a little dirty ... no one disputes that. But not all that dirty. More wiley than dirty. He's good for boxing. GOOD.

Yeah, I thought you were more reasonable and fact-based than you sounded for the odd moment there. It's ok. Everyone has their moments.

Boxing is a "niche" sport, most fans that watch it regularly are pretty much hardcore, casual boxing fans come and go. Point is, boxing ebbs and flows, but it's here to stay.

You're seriously comparing Tyson attacking Lewis and drawing more attention to the fight to a bullshit decision wish left the whole stadium booing? This WON'T attract fans, nobody is happy with the result, especially the people that payed money to see it. Apart from the fact that Chad doesn't want a rematch with Hopkins, not many people will PAY to see it after tonight. Like I said before "It's a black eye to the sport" in no way is this good.
