Let's remember to factor THAT important point into judgements about Rocky. Cassius Clay started boxing at age 12, training intensely with Fred Stoner. Nothing like learning something when you are young as hell. Scientists have proven that the cortico-motor neurons in the brain start to lose their ability to learn new tasks at the age of 17-19. Ali had 105 amateur fights---plenty of preparation to fight at the pro level.
Rocky Marciano at most had 10 or so amateur fights. He turned pro at age 25. This is absolutely amazing because he accomplished everything that he did with basically little talent. It is a triumph of the human spirit. Marciano accomplished something in quite a rare way indeed. Even if he has plenty of detractors who say he was slow, uncoordinated, awkward-looking in the ring, and fought over-the-hill fighters, etc... LET HIS RECORD AND HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS STAND AS AN EXAMPLE TO ALL ATHLETES, TO ALL PEOPLE, THAT IF YOU HAVE THE HEART, THE GUTS, THE DETERMINATION, THEN
