dont forget Mayweather - Ortiz ;)
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
Boxing has been this way forever. Nothing is going to change, certainly not when there are suckers like us to make money off of.
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
This is why our sport is regarded as a joke outside of the hardcore circle. It's such a turnoff to see things like this and it happens way too often. It drives people away.
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
Gonna add the donaire narvaez fight up in the mix there. Yeah, been a terrible year for boxing. Here's hoping cotto plasters margarito. No pun intended.

I knew I'd missed a glaring one somewhere.
I know that boxing has always been like this, but I don't remember it happening this often (it's been almost all the big fights!).
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
You should add the Williams/Lara and Sturm/Macklin decisions to the list.
And also all the PED insults and accusations thrown around nowadays.

yeah boxing always been corrupt but seems like this year the shit went the wrong way more often than not but this one was just sickenin!!!
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
there have been a few dodgy decisions at british level too
smith simpson, that commonwealth light middleweight fight (cant remember the fellas name), dallas v page
thing is you get some dodgy ones and i cant understand why they have made it that way
smith simpson for example, why give it smith twice even? simpson was on the verge of a world title and was robbed by smith on both occasions, clearly won both fights
i cant see how a smith win helped anyone in any way appart from smith
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
I'm getting pig sick of these decisions. One day I will just walk away.
We cannot keep getting screwed all the time. It's just not right.
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
Shit refs like Joe Cortez and that fucker Dave Parris are also ruining boxing.

Yes, poor refs and poor judges. Boxing needs to get rid of the dinosaurs.
Re: R.I.P. boxing 1867-2011
I believe it's getting worse with giant sums of money at stake in the casinos and more corporate propaganda fueling fights. The high profile fights like never rigged to this extent in the recent Leonard/Hearns/Haggler/Duran era.
People say that boxing is dying because of the recent pimping of glamorized MMA/UFC, but in days past I could never see how the sweet science could be lost to a recent cagefighting fad... then I remember how boxing is killing itself with a ridiculous host of governing bodies and corporate fraud and aggrandizement. Pity for such a beautiful and honed sport to be lost to greed.

The sport hasn't been honed enough with regards to the way judges score rounds. Same scenario with MMA (though I think MMAs still have it worst with their judging system, but you can't blame them since they're still an "infant combat sport" compared to boxing). It's a system that's old and haven't yet caught up with the modern times.
Applause to changes they've made with regards to taking into account replays when it comes to fight ending fouls etc. but the judging is still too subjective and the system so flawed that irresponsible judges gets away with poor calls without any infractions. Politics still play an important role in the way decisions are made and I know I'm being a bit paranoid here when saying that the reason why dramatic changes in the system still haven't been made because "the powers that be" won't allow them to be implemented in the first place.
