Boxing Goes back to Broadcast/terrestrial TV and prime time in US!
Main Events lands Versus/NBC deal | RingTV
The article is almost 2 weeks old but I just found it while going to Ring's website. I think this is exciting news, I've always said that boxing began to decline in popularity when it went to HBO and Showtime exclusively which severely limits its audience and future participants in the US. The most popular sports in the US aren't on premium cable channels they're on broadcast tv. Main Events has made a deal with NBC to start broadcasting fights on weekends on prime time starting Jan. 21. I hope Goldenboy and Top Rank follow suit.

That is great news; Boxing still breaks ppv records and is always the talk at the watering when good fighters are matched. There is no reason why it should not come back and get the proper exposure it has always deserved.

That is a long time overdue, US and UK fans get ripped off.

I've got a theory that boxing success goes in cycles. Boxing on terrestrial TV will always be a success. Eventually the subscription / PPV channels will get interested. Gradually the majority of boxing goes on to these channels. The popularity dwindles as not enough people get to watch boxing. The money starts to drop for the week by week fights. Ratings drop on the specialist channels, then they end up going back to terrestrial TV. Cycle starts again.
There will always be some fights that are so big they'll take a massive revenue on PPV, but this is more about the grass roots and national level boxing.

I believe the rematch of Zelenoff v Mayweather Sr is the first one up. Mayweather wanting revenge for the beatdown he got last time.
