Which Trainer teaches the best fundamentals?
Well since there is so much hate or disrespect for Freddie Roach's style since the Peterson fight I started wondering....which trainer does the best job teaching the fundamentals of boxing? Hitting and not getting hit, scoring points & winning rounds, proper defense, proper footwork. Sure this could turn into a "Which Trainer has the most disciplined fighters" argument but right now and all time, my choices.....
Right Now: Manny Steward - pump the jab, hit and don't get hit, use the 1-2, fight from the outside, use height & reach to your advantage.
All time: Ray Arcel - He trained the 2 best lightweights of all time! A pure boxer in Benny Leonard & a guy who could do it all in Roberto Duran. Judging by those two it's hard to find a guy who trained 2 fighters to be such great pugilists.
Who ya got?

Come on, you didn't get that I was (mostly) joking? He's a great trainer, obviously. Like Roach, not everyone who he's trained has been 100% on point in every fight. But I'm happy to agree that Beristain's fighters are (with a couple exceptions) more fundamentally sound than Roach's. Probably less so than Manny Steward's.
