I think Ward eats Martinez alive.
Ward is too big and too clever
Since Ward was so busy with the S6, I never thought of him fighting Matinez. In which, I believe Ward will school Martinez.
A fight I did think about was Martinez vs Andre Dirrell. That's a fight I would love to see.
Would be easy points win for Ward
At what weight class? Realize that Ward fought at light heavyweight in the Olympics and that Martinez was a junior middleweight for most of his career. Martinez walks around at 160. Ward walks around at 185. There's an unsurmountable size difference. At 168, Ward beats Martinez easily. Can Ward get to 160? But, would we even want to see that?
It's a funny thing really. Ward isn't rated as one of the top p4p guys but p4p I think he really has a chance to beat anyone.
I think we all agree Floyd is the number one fighter on the planet and would dominate Manny if they fought.
But most of us think Floyd woul never move up to 154 to face Martinez because Martinez is simply too much of a risk. Very tough fight for Floyd imo.
But at the same time we all seem to think Ward would beat Martinez easily yet he's not rated as high as either.
It's not just about size either. Floyd won a legitimate title at 154 whilst Martinez started out at 147. But I still think Martinez is a really tough fight for Floyd.
But I think if Ward and Martinez were the same size Ward would school him. He's too easy to hit.
To be clear, Ward is now ranked as one of the top p4p guys. He just won the Sports Illustrated Boxer of the Year and in most rankings, he has pushed top 5 p4p.
The only thing I disagree with in regards to Ward/Martinez is that I'm still not convinced of Ward's chin. That is the only question mark about him at this point (it is for Bute too to be fair). We know Ward is a special boxer and we know Ward is physically strong. We also know Ward is not a big puncher. Could Ward handle being hit by Martinez in a mythical p4p fight? Maybe. But, that is the only question mark in my opinion.
I agree we don't know much about Ward's chin, but i think that has to do with his defense. I can't really remember him getting hit with any solid clean punches. He comes and and goes out at awkward angles. I would like to see the fight if they could make it happen, possibly 165? I don't see it happening because of the money. Martinez is looking for that big payday and Andre Ward will not bring that.
Just as silly as it is the ask floyd/pac to fight sergio, it's almost as bad for anyone to ask him to fight ward. Ward just got done bullying a huge strong froch around the ring, he'd easily do the same to martinez.
The slight difference is that Floyd and Pacquiao have fought at 154 before which is where Martinez fought most of his career. Martinez has never fought at 168 and Ward has never fought at 160. As I said, if Ward could make 160, like Martinez can make 154 (and even 150), the fight would possibly be interesting. I don't blame Floyd or Manny though for not moving up to 154 if they think they aren't big enough as I don't blame Sergio for not moving up to 68, but again, the only difference is that Floyd and Manny have fought at 154 before and Sergio has never fought at 168. Frankly, I don't want to see Sergio fight below 150 because I don't believe he'll be as effective. I'm not convinced that he would be effective now at 154 but maybe with the right diet and preparation, he would.
Andre Ward is overrated at the moment as i said in other thread.
