Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
With all of the usual bullshit about the Pacquiao - Mayweather fight one has to think is Bob Arum doing the right thing in trying to delay the fight to late may so a 40,000 seater can be made for the superfight? Who agrees that this is the correct thing for the fight?
De La Hoya thinks that he is being too greedy and that they will sell out the MGM in two hours and they should bump up the prices for the fight because the 5th may date is available for Mayweather to take. Who agrees with De La Hoya?
Is charging more money for these seats fair though? or is Bob Arum doing the fair thing in making more seats for more people to view the fight live? This will no doubt get more revenue for both fighters.
What do you all feel about this situation??
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
This stadium excuse is total BS from Arum. The huge bulk of the $$ for this fight will come from PPV buys -- not gate sales. This is a red herring. And adding more crappy seats where people need binoculars to see isn't really a great boon to the fans either.
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
I hate to say it but I have to agree with Arum.
This will be the richest fight ever, and certainly the biggest in my lifetime. Not just for the $$$$ (the fighters and camps will earn enough money) but from a fan perspective and as many people as possible get to be able to see it live and 'be there'.
Ok not everyone who wants to go will be able to get a ticket , but an extra 25 - 30,000 will and I think that should be high on the list of priorities.
After all, unless I'm grossly mistaken, isn't it us, the fans who should be the priority in all such things :-\
Also am I missing something but this stadium could be ready by the end of May so why can't Mayweather fight then. Its only three weeks later
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
It all depends on how much more money he can make from the extra gate sales and whether or not that outweighs the cost of speeding up the construction.
I'm pretty sure if you threw enough money at that stadium, you could get it finished 3 weeks earlier.
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
yes fair enough - but why does it have to be May 5th ? There's three other Saturdays in May

And there's also already a permanent 40,000-seat stadium in Las Vegas. Again, this is complete BS from Arum.
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
May 5th is a holiday weekend. That's why he wanted that weekend. Nonetheless, I hope Floyd play the game and say ok, the end of May is good.
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
Come on people its BS. You cant build a big stadium in a few months! Think of all the work involved and the health and safety etc. Plus when is there ever something built without problems and delays occurring? Any setback would only put the building back further and then youre left spending a load of money on a stadium no one wants. Its total hogwash. There will be no stadium made for the end of May, it wont happen. Its just Arum talking bollocks.
Suddenly the MGM Grand on Cinco de Mayo weekend isnt a good enough fight weekend? Since when?
I cant believe people are with Arum on this. If Pac loses before a Mayweather fight happens (and lets face it this fight already lost a little bit of its sheen because of Marquez III), this P4P showdown is no more. Mayweather may as well fight Bradley or whoever possibly beats Pac in the meantime. Its a big risk to not fight now. Not wanting to fight at the already booked MGM Grand on Cinco de Mayo is laughable. Pac/Arum clearly dont want to fight.

How much would it cost to build a stadium that fast to be ready in May and will the ticket sales really make it worth it after you do the math of stadium construction costs? I can imagine tickets for the MGM selling out in a blink of an eye regardless of prices being a bit more expensive for this mega fight.
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
It's just a BS excuse from Arum to stall the fight so he can continue milking Pac.

is there ??
Re: Bob Arums views on the 40,000 seater who is with him?
I kinda feel sorry for pac, arum is making him look like a straight punk. And i don't think it has anything to do with pac. I belive manny would fight floyd, rodger, and maybe even marquez again in the same night if the fans wanted. But all these excuses and silly statements that my nine year old son even calls bullshit (and he aint even allowed to cuss) are getting out of hand. A stadium ???? Then what a gold ring, a diamond ring bell, ring ropes of dutch eagle feathers ? Sure doesn't look good. I wouldn't be surprised if arum is the one that snitched floyd out and got him locked up in the first place.
