Eubank Sr on Froch and his own career

Carl Froch is a Brtitsh super-middleweight World champion. But 9 out of 10 people in the street don't have a clue who he is. The recognition he has earned and deserves, he does not have. It's not enough to be just a top fighter... you must be a top entertainer aswell.
Quote:
You talk about baptism of fire, having tough fights on the way up. I had my first 30 fights by the age of 19-and-a-half, only three- and four-rounders but more knockout-type punches thrown at me than an eight- or 10-round contest would possess. All fully grown men who were trading punches with top professionals every day. Most of these opponents in my first 30 fights had Golden Gloves success, where you fought multiple three-rounders in one night, and every one of these first 30 opponents were there to win and attempted to take my head clean off my shoulders. So I was 4 and 0 as a professional boxer, and with the best sparring in the game at my disposal, in New York City, and so the world was my oyster.
By the time I was fighting eight- and 10-rounds against Anthony Logan and Randy Smith, who had fought all of the world's leading middleweights between them, I was an extremely polished operator and punched them more cleanly than they'd been punched. This was when I knew I was world champion in waiting, if I didn't already.
I considered myself to be world champion when I beat Hugo Corti for the WBC International title on March 6th, 1990. I became leading contender in the World Boxing Association with that victory, apart from fighters who got knocked out in one round or gave up the world championship. When Nigel Benn went on to knock out Iran Barkley in one round, he defeated the fighter who only subjectively lost to the other world champions, and so warranted the kings ransom to fight me.
I was officially world champion with the Benn victory. As far as elite competition, Michael Watson and Tony Thornton from 1990 only otherwise were defeated by the best-rated boxers, pound-for-pound, of the world. Sugar Boy Malinga was the future WBC world champion. Lindell Holmes was the former IBF world champion. Ron Essett was unofficially the WBC world champion. Graciano Rocchigiani was unofficially the IBF world champion. The WBA title-holder, Michael Nunn, would be defeated by the aforementioned Rocchigiani for the WBC light-heavy world championship. Even Ray Close and Henry Wharton were European and Commonwealth champions respectively and that's 3/4's of the world.
I was unofficially world champion until September 9th, 1995. That's five-and-a-half years. That's 24 world championship fights until defeat with three non-title first-round knockouts, or 27 fights of elite performance in a 66-month period, the vast majority of which over the 12-round duration. That was unthinkable before it occurred, no fighter could surely do this. Well, my friend, I did it. And my name is Christopher Livingstone Eubank.

Re: Eubank Sr on Froch and his own career
He did have an amzingly busy schedule!
Re: Eubank Sr on Froch and his own career
Were Eubank and Benn, career's took of was main stream tv both fighter's sold well to the general
public. Benn the dark destroyer, Eubank simple the best house hold name's,people new ho they were.!
Froch is not a house hold name, you have to say, down to poor promotion and management all boxing fan's no him, but very few other's.
Fact ITV made Eubank and Benn house hold name's, Prim time did nothing for Froch's career main stream TV pity they don't show as much of this great sport as they used to.
We are all loser's us as fan and Champion's like Froch and many other fighter's.!

Re: Eubank Sr on Froch and his own career
Eubanks is over elaborating his career wins, after brutal wars with Benn and Watson he took the money from sky and fought poor fighters at quick intervals because they were that poor. Eubanks avoided McCallum, Jones, Toney and even Herol Graham.
However it is interesting what he said about learning his trade sparring in the gym with quality fighters as I think he is doing the same thing with his son. Junior only fights for the exposure and entertainment value, his real learning is in the gym.
Re: Eubank Sr on Froch and his own career
Shame on Froch for trying to beat all in his division , as opposed to fighting guys like Dan Schommer , Ron Esset , Dan Sherry , John Jarvis , Gary Stretch.
Eubank entertained the general public with fights like this , but the fact is he was never a real World champion , he never even tried to unify.
Froch like him or loath him , at least he fights the best , even if it means picking up a few loses.
Eubank is bankrupt so he feels he has to give his opinion , the fact is Eubank is an uneducated idiot.
FACT.

FACT.
Word.
Very few fighters have the willingness to fight the best boxers available or the drive to do so like Froch does. He's a relatively limited fighter at the world-class level, but I can't think of anyone I respect more.

Re: Eubank Sr on Froch and his own career
Both of you are right if Froch manufactured his career like Eubanks after the Benn and Watson fights, then he too would have remained undefeated as he would have beaten the opponents that Chris beat.

Froch did not have time on his side, World champ in his late 20's injury age are against you in your 30's
he had to make the move when he did.
Older you go the more injury prone you become, I feel he has may be 4 top level fight's left in him,
in his last fight he did take some stick.
Froch has had in jury problem's like most fighter's and he will all way's have trouble with slick fast fighter's.

Eubank while not having the best record did more for British boxing than these super middles like JC and Froch ever did. Those were exciting times! Eubank understood the buisness side of things and developed a gimmick with his charisma. Bit like wrestling. Everyone wants to see the good guy vs ths bad guy. Not two charisma-voids like most fighters that came after him..JC used to bitch and moan about not being popular but nobody was ever emotionally invested in him.
ALL I CAN SAY IS I AM:o
