as for the blood...

Seeing blood covering a fighter's hand after a match is unusual, but Donaire said he was told that the reason was because his hand had swelled so much that the skin popped open as he continued to hit Vazquez.
"The blood was because I popped a little vein in there, near the knuckle area, but it was nothing major, just bloody," Donaire said. "It was a vein and that's why it was bleeding a lot. It kept bleeding and didn't stop bleeding until the next day. My hand kept bleeding after the fight. I guess from all the impact, I popped a vein.
"It looked really bad and it felt so painful for a couple of days, but it was unbearable in the later rounds of the fight. I'm just very thankful that there's nothing seriously wrong and that I will be ready to go when we get our next date from Top Rank."
so then now with Mares moving up, lets see what happens
Mares gives up title, aims to move up in weight
Good to hear that there's nothing wrong with Donaire's hand, it looked like it was broken, which would have taken months to heal.

Unfortunately if it was really the Top Rank/Golden Boy BS that kept Donaire/Mares from happening at 118, it'll be the same thing at 122. Too bad because if Donaire wants to be a big star, he needs to be paired with someone with that less defensive style again before getting into likely very dry fights with the likes of Rigondeaux or Nishioka. I think he destroys Mares.
Instead we'll likely the get the less meaningful version of a fight against a come-forward guy with Arce.
I would have liked to see Mares/Moreno though -- notable how Moreno's not even mentioned in that article. I think he beats Mares too.
Re: Donaire's Hand is Fine
Popped vein and bloody wraps. Interesting. Good thing he wasn't deaing with a break or serious damage.
Re: Donaire's Hand is Fine
Nonito isn't going " destroy " Mares.. Mares may lack defense but his offense is his defense and with his fast paced, high volume style, he's going to give some problems.
Im not saying Nonito is going to lose but he's really gonna have to put in work against Mares.
Nonito-Nishioka is the best fight at 122.. It's a superfight that must happen for the division..
Re: Donaire's Hand is Fine
No way Donaire's hand was broke, that was all he was using, if anything his right hand looked injured as he hardly threw that at all.

I think Atlas nailed it, Donaire got bored. Not just in fight but a bit overall in last few. I think he's in love with the exposure.
