Why do so many people believe Cotto has an advantage @ 154?
People are acting as if Cotto has been fighting at 154 for years and Floyd had to move UP to fight him. If anything, it's a disadvantage because there is no evidence in Cotto's background that suggests that he has been effective at this weight.
There's this perception that Cotto is a some big, strong fighter who can overpower Floyd, when actually Floyd is the stronger fighter.

I keep reading how Mayweather is the stronger fighter. Where is the evidence of that? As far as the weight thing goes, the door swings both ways. Floyd has no screaming success at 154 either unless you consider his struggling with an over the hill Oscar as a strong showing.
The weight thing these days in a 17 division era is blown so far out of proportion that its difficult to be brought down to earth. Not many people these days walk around at the same weight they fight at. Floyds one of the few and his weight tonight will probably be the same weight he carried to the ring as his last fight at 147. Hop is another one of the naturals. When he was at 160, there were a few occasions when he actually entered the ring under the middle limit unlike say guys like Chavez Jr who enter the ring 21 pounds over the title they are defending.
Weight in this fight is a Non sequitur.

Personally I think Cotto looks stronger at 154 plus he will have weight advantage over Floyd come fight time. One advantage is better than no advantage, which would be the case at WW.

Cotto did ask for a catchweight against Margarito, which shows he's not a natural 154 pounder.

I think the strength advantage for Cotto was clear to me last night.

There was no unofficial weigh in but Floyd said in the post fight press conference that he weighed in at 147 on fight night but I don't know anything about Cotto's weight on fight night.

Cotto was certainly stronger in that fight and certainly without the advantage he would not have been in the contest.
