U.S. Horse Racing Triple Crown
This Saturday is the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the Triple Crown in U.S. horse racing. I'm not a horse racing fan..... but I love historic sporting events. And it's been 34 years since the last horse that won the triple crown. This year it's "I'll Have Another" trying to accomplish the feat. The horse has already won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. I'm hoping it happens. 34 years is a long time between any type of sporting accomplishment. Anybody else follow this at all?
Re: U.S. Horse Racing Triple Crown
When I was 9 or 10, Secretariat won it, then Seattle Slew and Affirmed won it back to back. I thought that a horse won the Triple Crown just about every year. Spectacular Bid won two of three right after that, and I thought it was a fluke that he didn't win all three. But it has been a while since then, hasn't it? I'd like to see one more Triple Crown.
Re: U.S. Horse Racing Triple Crown
Me too! I read a depressing article on Sports Illustrated about the sad state of horse racing nowadays and about how even if I'll Have Another wins the Triple Crown it'll save the sport for a day or two, but not beyond that. But regardless... I'd love to see another Triple Crown winner after such a long, long time. Anything that doesn't happen in sports except every 20-30 years or so, is worth rooting for.
It's a little like the consecutive game hitting streak in baseball, which I've read is one of the purest records in all of sports. I think Joe DiMaggio must've been a joy to watch and I love that he's an ATG... but a part of me would like someone to challenge that long-standing 56-game hitting streak. Should be a star player, though..... not a fluke.

Not this year, anymore. It appears "I'll Have Another" has been scratched from the Belmont.
