Martinez is one funny dude
Martinez admits Chavez has improved but still predicts KO victory | RingTV
in regards to his fight with chavez
They asked if he’s worried about fighting in a small ring.
“No, it’s less room for him to run.”
They asked is he’s leery of the 20 pounds Chavez will add to his large frame after the weighin.
“I’ll have more body to punch,” he said.
They asked if he’s concerned about being robbed by the official judges.
“No,” he said. “My judges are my right hand and my left hand.”
I hope that last one is especially true because I doubt he's getting a decision, especially on mexican independence day...Looking forward to this fight hopefully doesn't fall thru due to drugs, injury or any other shit that has cost us a couple awesome matchups this year.

Good, good fight. I hope Martinez comes through to set up a fight with Floyd Mayweather. It's the only meaningful and difficult fight left for Floyd IMO. Everyone else is so many rungs below, even if they're good fighters Floyd won't get the credit for them.
I'm also not sure what happens in this fight. I haven't seen enough of Chavez to really make an honest assessment but he seems to be going through some better opponents recently (albeit with distinct weight and potential drug advantages) - Martinez hasn't looked amazing in his last few fights but has always turned it on late and dispatched with style. He'll be in trouble if he can't dispatch Chavez late on though and leaves it to the scorecards

I actually think he might win as well. Martinez is clearly the better boxer...and I will be rooting for him. BUT...the size difference is frightening. At the promotional conferences they hold...Chavez looks so much bigger than Sergio. Can Martinez dance and keep the fight on the outside the whole 12 rounds? Or will Chavez cut off the ring and wear him down. Martinez is a warrior and these two have been talking a lot of smack...so you know at some point he is going to want to trade with the much bigger guy. Chavez is clearly using something to cut weight...his testing history has been beyond shady. But he should be coming in on fight night 180 pounds +!! This going to be a really exciting fight.

Yeah I think Chavez is a hard working dude. He will stay fit and strong and his strength will just be a sickening factor in the fight. I think Martinez will look feeble.

This could be one hell of a fight, and yeah, I hope it comes off and the Chavez camp doesn't get cold feet.
I hope Martinez kicks Jr's ass. :)
Sept 15th is a busy night of boxing, besides Martinez vs. Chavez Jr on HBO PPV, we'll get to see "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez on Showtime.
At Las Vegas (HBO PPV): Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 12 rounds, for Martinez's Ring magazine and Chavez's WBC middleweight title
At Las Vegas (Showtime): Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez, 12 rounds, for Alvarez's WBC junior middleweight title; Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Daniel Ponce De Leon, 12 rounds, for Gonzalez's WBC featherweight title; Marcos Maidana vs. Jesus Soto Karass, 12 rounds, welterweights
Re: Martinez is one funny dude
I'm glad Sergio is finally getting some PPV money the man earned it. However the smaller ring size...I know he'll outbox the hell out of Jr but you can only outbox a cruiser weight for so long. God I hope he wins.

I agree with this. The size difference is the only reason I have any question at all about this fight (though I still favor Martinez). But really, Martinez is a natural 154-pounder; Chavez is at least a natural 168-pounder but I think he'll end up at 175 and is maybe of that natural weight already.
Re: Martinez is one funny dude
The Martiz v Chavez fight is not listed on Box Nation which is a pity as i want to watch this live. Really excited about this fight.

Re: Martinez is one funny dude
If you look at the history of boxing and those matches where size was the factor, there are fighters that were smaller in stature or just plain thinner than the giants they were facing but speed often negates power because you have to have a target. If Chavez is forced to chase Martinez and Martinez makes him miss, remember that fatigue makes cowards of even the best fighters and ability. If that jab of Martinez becomes a factor then a TKO Might be possible for the so called smaller man and inn training camp the weight factor considered, Chavez may strip some of that muscle he allegedly has. Ever time you have to come down twenty pounds or more you lose muscle and re hydrating is water weight at best. He might be better off moving up because you can only go to the well just so many times. On certain nights David can kick Goliath's ass with ease.
