USA advice - driving Dallas to memphis
For you people across the water.
Am in USA for three weeks in September going round Texas a but then heading to Memphis (about 450 miles) in car.
Any advice on a good stop off point or somewhere worth visiting overnight ??
Any other tips eg places to avoid so I don't get shot etc.. ?
cheers

Hey bro, I live about 130 miles South East of Dallas here in East Texas. To be honest there's not a hell of a lot to see or visit on the 450 miles (- I-30 E and I-40 E) from Dallas to Memphis. If you really want to stop somewhere along the way, i'd suggest Little Rock, Arkansas, getting a room for the night at a nice Major Hotel chain, and checking out some of the local attractions in that area in the morning before heading to Memphis.
You shouldn't be in any danger in Little Rock, just keep a low profile. ;)
Cheers

Mark TKO I suggest you go and meet the locals down Martin Luther King Blvd dressed in all white robes, wearing a pillow case over your head and a burning cross. They will welcome you with open arms.

If you say so mate - is it a polite thing to do there and will it maintain international relations ??
Re: USA advice - driving Dallas to memphis
I'd take Masters advice with a pinch of salt as he is a known bummer. Just saying.

I've done that drive several times. Mars is right. The drive will be pretty and I'm sure there are some obscure points of interest to someone from the UK but other than spending a day in Little Rock there isn't a major destination spot. If you have time to spend you could go north through Oklahoma and go to an indian reservation. If it were me I get up early drive straight through to Memphis and hang out there.

Re: USA advice - driving Dallas to memphis
I'm not comfortable with all this talk of hanging out in Memphis.

Flying into Love Field? I've been through Dallas a few times and hate it more each time. All I remember is having to circle three times to find Waco exit to head South. Seems Tx loves to have two, three different names or numbers for some streets. I've heard of a few people who got off in Memphis but to each his own, free country and all :-X;D

Dude...don't you live in New Orleans? Dallas can be accused of perpetually tearing apart and rebuilding highways but any TX highway compared to LA is like comparing the US to Somali roads.
