Hearns vs Duran - June 1984
Good quality full fight video of Thomas Hearns vs. Roberto Duran, I can't ever recall Tommy looking sharper then he was in this fight, it was man against boy @154 for Hearns' WBC Jr. Middleweight title. Someone forgot to tell Tommy that Duran was a legend and an all-time great, holding his own but losing a decision to Marvin Hagler for the Middleweight title in his last fight. To Duran's credit he wasn't afraid to fight anyone and everyone, but Hearns was like a fukin' buzz saw that night.

Yeah, Jackson was hell when he was well, too bad he didn't stay in the game a little longer. I believe if Ray Leonard had fought this sharper, stronger version of Hearns that we see in his fight with Duran, Leonard vs Hearns I, would have seen an entirely different outcome. Tommy looked drained at WW, but great @154.

I think that it's an underrated win considering that Duran took Haggler the distance and fought on for many more years even after that.
Re: Hearns vs Duran - June 1984
Hearns is really unappreciated he was a great fighter who just happened to lose to the second greatest welterweight ever and possibly the greatest middleweight ever. Hearns was a monster puncher and all action. My favourite form the fab four.

One of my favs this Ko. Belongs in the Smithsonian of thumpage. Hearns was textbook right hands and a hell of a boxer under all that power also.
Re: Hearns vs Duran - June 1984
What made it special was that no one did that to Duran ever.
I know McCallum was in the Kronk gym at the time and he wanted Duran and was upset when Hearns got the fight instead.
Re: Hearns vs Duran - June 1984
Everything about it was beautiful. Tommy managed to simultaneously put on a boxing master class, and a display of how sustained and accurate power can dismantle a legend. His feet were great, bouncing around whilst looking, short quick steps in, and then set when throwing. He threw pretty much every punch in his arsenal, finishing with a right so perfect you can hear it connect. Duran fearless as usual played his part to charging in and getting back up when lesser men would have folded. People will say it is just looking at the past through rose tinted glasses, but fights like that just never seem to happen any more. Two greats in the same ring with performances like that, from boxers willing to test themselves against the best, are becoming as rare as hens teeth.
