Re: Some mythical matchups.
Interesting match ups, I think the one I agree with you the most that would shock some posters is the Nunn over Ward prediction. I can easily see it going either way but if Nunn outboxed Ward for 12 I wouldn't be shocked because of the movement. JMM vs Arguello is too close to call IMO and I think that Pryor would take Bradley out after a couple of rough early rounds adjusting to Bradley's tactics.
Re: Some mythical matchups.
Nunn over Ward? Not a chance. Ward is very strong at super middle, and would grind down Nunn to a stoppage. Nunn wasn't anything special above middle. Ward is.

I was about to say that I thought it was against the rules to have one of these threads without Toney involved.
Re: Some mythical matchups.
Jack Johnson vs Archie Moore
Jack Johnson vs Floyd Patterson
Jack Johnson vs RJJ
Jack Johnson vs Bhop
And any amalgamation of those previously named fighters.
I have no idea who'd win in any of those, its all a toss up for me.
Re: Some mythical matchups.
loving the randomness ;D Good stuff Mick
For me, gotta go
Nunn...and I could never stand the guy...he's more patient, in a Ward like mold mentally and boxes very well long range. I think he actually takes it on cards with boos raining down.
Holmes...at best too sharp, too quick and too Holmes. Holmes wouldn't be sucked in and works off piston jab.
Spinks all day and night
I love me some Hopkins but.....gotta go Saad. Hopkins wouldn't have a patient portrait to be painted at lt. hvy with peak Saad who walked through literal meat grinders to come back to win. Hopkins wouldn't sit and grind enough to keep him at bay and if he did he'd be out hustled and outmuscled...me thinks.
Pryor over Bradley and I see Tim sitting in the seats via power combo punching of Pryor. He'd be game and forced to box out but vs Pryor he's throwing Nerf balls vs guy just as gritty and physical inside.
Gomez over Vasquez, eventually, and both wearing red masks. Never hook with a hooker.

Yeah my mind drifted to Marciano /Tyson with old gloves in a fifteen rounder, both smaller for heavyweights. That and Rockys crouching style would cut Mikes peek a bo uppercut game out a touch, he would be forced into a different kind of war, he may win real early with some deep hooks after taking a couple of straight wrist bones to the nose ;). If their weights were closer it would be such a war, but Mike would speed in and kill the Rock with overwhelming hand and foot speed early in all reality.

Here's what I cam up with:
Nunn vs. Ward - I would take Nunn on this one. Just think he would give Ward problems with his style.
Tuff one. I think I'd go with Nunn also. I'll never forget the Toney spanking until that fateful moment. Ward has a really unique style though and a real boxing brain.
Vitaly vs. Holmes - Very tempted to say Vitaly but gonna side with Holmes on a hard fought win.
Would be interesting to see if Vitali could draw Holmes into the same fight he had with Lewis. Holmes burst into a division that just came out of the seventies. Pretty much every name he beat was a second off and a dollar short. Dont get me wrong Larry was a great fighter and probably got shafted by Spinks and the Marciano legacy but a toss up fight imo.
"Chocolatito" Gonzalez vs. "Finito" Lopez - I think Gonzalezs aggressiveness would give him the edge in the 1st few rounds until Lopez settled in and began to counter. Lopez win.
I think Gonzalez poses many of the same problems Alvarez did. Gonzalez gets this one.
Valero vs. Escalera - Damn! I don't know I wanna say Valero but Escalera here he's got reach & height on Valero. Escalera win.
Agreed who knows? Valero's boxing skills left a little to be desired but he had 1 punch turn the fight around power in both hands.
Hopkins vs. Saad Muhammad - BHop always finds a way to win. Just when we think he's done he pulls it off. BHop win.
Starting to see a pattern here;D Tough fights. Lean the same way as you again.
Wilfred Benitez vs. Pacquiao - Pacquiao would start off good but I think Wilfred would be able to counter him and keep him off balance half way thrue. In the end Pac gets a win based on output.
Ray Leonard is probably one of the most accurate punchers that ever lived and he said he had never missed that many punches in his career as he did against Wilfredo. I might add that Wilfredo at the time was already messed up. Manny's rinse and repeat style would not work against a prime Benitez and probably gets him knocked out.
Izzy vs. Gomez - What a war this would be. Both guys can acuatlly box well but come on we know they would start throwing bombs 'til one went down. I'd take Gomez on this one.
Great fight. I think Gomez stops Vasquez.
JMM vs. Arguello - The hardest one to pick for me. Both are my top favorite fighters. Arguello's right had was mind blowing. JMM ring generalship is oustanding. I'm go with JMM win. No wait! Arguello. No I change my mind JMM.
Bad style match up for Marquez. Arguello as aggressive as his style was also a great counter puncher. Arguello would have every advantage over Marquez.
Pavlik vs. Antuofermo - Can you say blood bath? I think it would be a matter of who can take who's shot best. I think Pavlik has the slight advantage as he can box slightly better then Vito. Pavlik win.
Two male sheep in the rut. Flip a coin.
Spinks vs. Calzaghe - Spinks win for me. Calzaghe was dropped by a past RJJ and BHop if the Jinx were to drop him he aint getting up from that shot. Even if he did he would not recover in time and would be dropped again.
Joe was not a lightheavyweight even though he ended his career at that weight. Those flash knockdowns speak for themselves. Spinks verses Charles is a much better question or Jones.
Pryor vs. Bradley - Two very physical guys who like to mix it up. I'm leaning more towards Pryor as he would be the aggressor while Bradley would hold and try to hit. A lot of holding with Pryor win.
Pryor beats the shit out of him. No contest.
Because I quoted you and replied in the quote to save room I now have to type this sentence.
