A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
All the attention has been on Hatton and that's understandable, it was his event, his big comeback in more ways than one but lets not forget the role that Senchenko played.
Given the circumstances, the magnitude of the event, who he was fighting and the way he performed last time he could have been forgiven for going along with the script and dropping a loss. No one would have thought less of him, no one would have cared to be honest.
Senchenko had his own script, he let Hatton, the crowd and just about everyone watching have their moment thinking it was going to be a victorious return for the Hitman. He didnt get caught up in the emotion, didnt let the crowd bother him and didnt potentially play into Hatton's hands by giving too much too early. He showed patience, a mental toughness and maturity that Paulie Malignaggi would have us believe was missing from his make-up.
I'm not actually sure how good the guy is but he performed well and did a good job on Hatton. Best of luck to him.
Re: A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
The shine was taken off his win, well done I feel he showed Hatton a bit to much respect, in the fight
he could not miss Ricky with his straight right. In this fight the winner seem's to be forgot about.!
Re: A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
Intelligent boxing.
Hatton had him look stupid early.
But he played it right and I couldn't agree more with this post.
Re: A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
To be fair Malignaggi did say in the studio that Senchenko looked sharp and focused on the pads compared to an open workout before with his own fight with Senchencko where he reckons Senchenko didn't look interested.
Hatton was pretty terrible to watch, he employed the same tactics as he used against Tszyu. I admit his fitness was good to be able to fight the way he was but he was blocking shots with his face from the start and every shot he threw had KO intentions, he tried to break him with brute strength and agression, there were not enough body shots against such a tall opponent, poor head movement and attacked in straight lines. Against Tszyu it worked because Tszyu was slightly shopworn and Hatton had the hunger, desire and youth to take anything coming back at him. 6 months solid training wasn't enough.

This was Hatton in the Summer. Whatever people say about him he gave us some great nights as boxing fans.

Re: A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
Well said. I was suprised how well he kept his composure in enviroment after being frazzled early and midway was really picking his spots. Didn't realize he had the wingspan either. I think a Paulie rematch may be bankable but if anyone, Paulie owes Cano a rematch 1st, though unlikely.
Re: A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
Senchencko deserves a ton of credit, I think a lot of boxing fans wrote him off because of the TKO loss to Malignaggi, but keep in mind the ref stopped the fight because Senchenko's left eye had swollen shut. I believe Senchenko kicks Pauli's punk ass in a rematch.
Re: A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
It was only natural that people would forget about senchenko's win and focus on hatton's loss.
People will be talking about Ricky because he was the star attraction and if could he really roll back the year's & see a bit of the old hatton, after seeing him fight them awful demon's that had overtaken he's life.
But make no mistake Senchenko has put himself out there now and will get big fight's from this,so yes the Hatton camp should have given him more due's,but the fight itself has done the talking for him so he won't worry.
Re: A word on Vyacheslav Senchenko
I do not think that Senchenko is really that good. He would get beat by Berto, Guererro, Floyd and is really a B level fighter. The fact that Paulie beat him on his home turf through injury from a non-puncher makes me think he will not beat the elite fighters in the division.

Agreed, I think he is a sound boxer but certainly not a special one. He has a very typical Eastern European style that is perfect to deal with guys who come straight forward like Hatton did the other night. I thought Rickys footspeed and timing looked nothing like it used to and he was barging in throwing well off the mark most of the time. Watch Senchenko against Paulie and it's pretty clear he can't lead or create openings of his own all to well.
Having said that, credit to the man for getting up for the fight and not letting the crowd bother him, must have been intimidating to enter that stadium coming off a loss. He did a really good job in the last round of softening Hatton up with the same shot that ended it as well, but as I said Hatton was not a hard target by that point.
