When someone says boxing who is the fighter you think of?
The fighter that comes to my mind is Gaspar Ortega. Ortega was a Mexican welterweight who fought on TV in the early 50s. I remember him because he was the first fighter I started following. He was part Indian and would wear a Chiefs headdress once in a while plus he was a fighter with a ton of heart and a good left hook.
Who comes to mind when someone says starts talking about boxing?

An enigma: Len Harvey. No footage, but his many fights at all the weights and some fights giving away 20 lbs etc and such a long career literally came through unscathed makes me think he must have been Englands version of Willie Pep.

After last night I'd have to say Freddie Flintoff.
Re: When someone says boxing who is the fighter you think of?
For me is Audley Harrison , a true warrior.

Jem Mace. He brought science to the noble art, among the first to realise the importance of footwork and bridge the gap between bare knuckle and gloved boxing. He made the sport international by travelling to Australia and America and New Zealand where he discovered Bob Fitzsimmons. He taught legends like Peter Jackson at his school and refused to lower himself to the low standards of Queensbury a man who ironically could not be further away from the honourable rules associated with his name. A musician and teacher, fighting all comers sometimes way heavier than himself, from the moment he battered the three thugs who smashed his beloved violin until his death as a penniless busker he lived a life extraordinary and was the man.

For me Tyson, got me in madly in love with the game and had posters and scrap books of him. I then studied the history of boxing particularly the heavyweight division and loved the stories Louis and Dempsey.
Ali is the real figure head for boxing and his name transcends the game.
Re: When someone says boxing who is the fighter you think of?
Many man, many! But one that stands out is Michael Carbajal. Its one thing to 'find' a fighter one night but along the lines of what BeenKOed said its another to watch them from Olympics and then start, middle, peaks-valleys and then the bitter end of it all. His enthusiasm after the Gonzalez ko was how life should be lived.
He was the definition of a fighter.
Re: When someone says boxing who is the fighter you think of?
Whoever is the heavyweight champion at the time.
Right now, Wladimir Klitschko.
Re: When someone says boxing who is the fighter you think of?
Roberto Duran, hell of a fighter a true great.;)
