Re: Jab gives me a headache
Glassjaw is a metaphor, it is not a real thing
When practicing a jab you should not hit you in the face you should block it or move out of the way.
It should also not hit you in the jaw/chin.
If you are unfit or exhausted you might get headaches or may be light headed.
1st Stop getting hit in the head.
2nd it should not hurt for ten seconds, you are miscalculating the amount of time it hurts.
3rd Evaluate your training getting punched in the head is not training.
4th Try exercising, if you feel light headed you will know it is not the jabs causing you the pain.
5th Drink water before you do any sport, drink more water in general.
6th If a punch is coming at your head, move out of the way, block or deflect the punch.
7th Stop telling people to punch you in the head.
8th I normally would not mention this but are you using gloves.
9th Ask them to punch slower, and gradually get faster as you feel more comfortable.
10th Have fun.

Does this mean i have a weak chin?
No. The chin rests on the bottom of the face. It means you have a weak synapse if light jabs and 1 pound gloves are causing this. You might want to choose a different activity.
Re: Jab gives me a headache
Thank you boyla. All of it was helpful. The reason why im getting punched on my chin is just to see weather or not i can take a punch, and you are right its not 10 seconds but def around 5-7... which i know its not normal, i don't really hear anyone saying they got a headache after a jab. Either way, contact with the opponents fist is inevitable. If im getting a headache after just a jab then that really bothers me. Im not extremely unfit either.
Re: Jab gives me a headache
I misunderstood you there. My fault. I thought you were getting headaches form range finder jabs above and around the eyes. My apologies.

Do you think no sleep is affecting it? By the way im also in a calm mind of state when im taking the jabs oppose to when you are in a fight your adrenaline is pumping could this also be why?

Don't know. I thought you were getting hit high above the around the eye and forehead area and that maybe you were turning the temple into it like when a ball is coming at your face. Its probably instinctual if you have no training but light jabs to the chin causing 10 seconds of headaches would probably make me go for an Mri.

I have been considering an Mri for awhile. I appreciate all the info!
Re: Jab gives me a headache
Nobody likes getting punched
You are not suppose to like getting punched, thousands of years of evolution and you are working against it.
Jabs are the most important punch in boxing, they do not directly get you knock outs, but they still hurt.
Any blow to the head will hurt you and mess with your senses, taking direct jabs to the chin which acts a lever and will amplify the impact of the blow will hurt and is suicide.
Although you might of had the right intentions you are going about it in a extremely wrong direction, no fighter lets people punch them in the face, they aim to avoid the blow, deliberately getting hit in the chin is even worse.
You head hurts because you are doing a very silly and dangerous thing.

Seek out those at your local gym. Some of the best trainers in the world are at that level and nobody even knows their names.
Re: Jab gives me a headache
You're skull isn't supposed to take that kind of trauma, even the kind produced by just a jab
If you're being peppered by a jab, it breaks you're concentration and can really disrupt your focus and awareness.
Despite the fact that its not a power punch, its usually the fastest punch in a fighters arsenal, and the most difficult to anticipate.
Re: Jab gives me a headache
If you've ever been concussed you may have lingering effects, it definitely sounds like boxing is not your sport.
Re: Jab gives me a headache
get everything out of the gym in order and then focus on your business inside the gym, even if you have a bad chin/punch taking ability, well you are at least finding it out early and can work around it, it means you will have to work even more on defense and movement, slip shots and don't take them to the head, turn your opponent, cover up take power out of shots, unless you're at a fatal or long term risk you shouldn't really give up so quick

Are you even listening to him?
He gets hit with a LIGHT jab and gets an instantaneous headache that lasts around 7 seconds. That is NOT normal.
