Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
I am completely lost as to why Alvarez does not just pick up the IBF belt. He can always vacate if they try to force him to fight a mandatory he does not like. I'm sure Bundrage would go to Mexico to get KTFO for the hell of it and a largest payday. He would probably be a 7:1 underdog
There are a lot of good matchups at 154, and I just hope they get the ball rolling and give some good fights in 2013...
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
K9 is really a C level fighter and one of the weakest title holders of the past 10 years..
Canelo has beaten better fighters than him and it's time for him to face the true elites already..
K9 Bumrage is capable of testing Canelo in any way shape or form.. K9 is a bum.
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
Saul should fight Trout and then Floyd.

His promoters would never put him in front of a polished boxer like trout. He can actually be outboxed if someone had the endurance to run from him for 12 rounds and jab. I don't care how highly everyone thinks of him.
I just think putting him in their with a big puncher is safer than putting him in with a great boxer.
If you we're GBP what would you do?

I don't think Trout is exactly a polished boxer, although running and jabbing would be his best bet to beat Canelo imo. I'd certainly pick Alravez to win if it did happen. Have no idea whether his handlers would make the fight or not, but I'm hoping it does come off. As for Bundrage though, he wouldn't be any more of a test than an old Mosley was, in fact those two are probably similar threats at this stage. K9 may have earned that kind of a fight, but I don't see him having a chance to win.
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
K9 is a hard worker with deceptive strength and power, well maybe the strength isn't so deceptive seeing as he's built like the incredible hulk.
I agree Bundrage probably wouldn't have a shot against Canelo, but why not Bundrage vs. Keith Thurman ?
I'd like to see that one.
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
He's not a big enough time and has an ugly style which could spoil the fight. GBP knows this so it's not worth the risk.

True, Bundrage would never be the kind of fighter to make a FOTY or anything, but they are trying to increase his marketability. He is v well known in Mexico, but not well known in the states. He is lightly regarded as a beltholder since winning his from Matthew Hatton (vomit).
I just think the American challenger could add to his <American> rep & marketability quickly. Hell of a lot safer than, say Kirkland or Angulo!
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
The one that needs to happen is Alvarez and Trout. Though we should all chip in and give Bundrage anything he wants for dispatching Cory Spinks like a sloppy drunk out of the bar.
I actually think Trout can cause more problems for Alvarez than he has seen. Don't think he beats him tomorrow but Canelo hasn't faced anything as shifty and fresh to date. As for K9, he and Angulo would be a fun free swinging train wreck!
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
Alvarez has to look good in his next fight so that people want to see him fight Mayweather. He might get a decision against Trout but if Trout makes him look bad it won't help build the Mayweather fight. Can't see Trout getting Alvarez anytime soon.
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
I don't understand why people want the Trout fight for Alvarez so badly. It'll be a good test, but it won't set the world on fire in terms of excitement. Both Kirkland & Angulo are more exciting fights IMO and I'd like to see how good Alvarez chin is against a legit 154lber who can bang.

Simply for me it's that there is no question Cotto would be next had Trout played his presumed role and not spoiled a date for Canelo. He's earned it and proven capable. As for excitement I think you can have good results with a styles clash rather than a Angulo or Kirkland who are just coming back from the scrap heap and proven rather easy to box. Angulo has along way to go with his punches looking not so harsh and getting hit on like a piƱata in his last give and take fight.
Bigger is what Canelo would do for himself facing Trouts style being that Mayweather is
on deck. He needs to face someone other than a single gear guy leading with his face if he hopes to prep for the total opposite in Mayweather. If he can't impress or do well with Trout he really doesn't belong fighting Mayweather right now.
Edit, and never under estimate the selling point of a good "Im seeking revenge because
you beat up my brother" tag line :p
Re: Why NOT Alvarez vs Bundrage
What a paradox.
Victor Ortiz vs Josesito Lopez
Josesito Lopez
"Yeah I am brave enough to fight the winner of this fight, after all" -Alvarez
Cotto vs Trout
"Wait who is Austin Trout, again? I was supposed to fight Cotto!" -also, Alvarez
Now, it could be that Trout is not a big enough draw, but why did that logic not apply after the Ortiz/Lopez fight???
