85 million for two fights!?
Was just reading that Floyd earned 85 million for two fights in 2012. The article said that was without endorsements.
Another reason why many boxing retitees can't seem to stay retired.
Re: 85 million for two fights!?
It's great to hear. I know people hate Floyd (and for good reason), but the revenue and interest he generates for boxing is great for the sport.
He paid his dues and seemed to make all the right moves over the last 7-8 years or so. It's hard to argue that kind of success.
Re: 85 million for two fights!?
I find it hard to believe he made over forty million a fight. One point two million PPV buys times sixty dollars is 72 million. More than half of that goes to HBO/cable providers. Say the promotion gets 35. Ten million tops from the gate and ten million site fee from Vegas leaves 55 and it's probably less than that. Prromoting the fight costs money, there's the event to stage, the undercard and Floyd's opponent to pay and the promoters to make their share. I can't see the promoters working for nothing or next to nothing.
Re: 85 million for two fights!?
Floyd is the promoter (with GB of course).

How is this possible, when he only fought once in 2012?

50 Cent was saying recently that his prmotional company doesn't exist, isn't incorporated or anything. Basically it's just on paper and he subcontracts the whole operation to GBP. It's possible he's making that kind of money from the fight when you factor in the overseas money but Golden Boy must be working for buttons. Maybe the $85 million number is how much profit the promotion made on the two fights. Maybe Vegas are paying ginormous site fees.
Re: 85 million for two fights!?
Good on Floyd to control his contract and buy out that wanker Arum which was the rigght move. Just imagine what these promoters make for doing sweet FA in comparison to their fighters.

The promoter fronts the money, if it's not successful they lose, without them you'd never see a fight

These promoters do not lose, Floyd is his own promoter.

The initial PPV buys generated $94 million, plus repeats sent that over a hundred million in the US. The live gate was just over $12 million. Throw in overseas TV rights and the numbers are way North of what you're quoting.

Is he really? Who'd have known? (;D) Floyd represents a tiny percent of fighters in boxing history.
Most have to sell their own tickets.

Thank the boxing gods for 24/7 and a dysfunctional family.
