Body protector suggestion
Hi guys,
It looks I'm prone to rib injuries. A few months ago I suffered an intercostal strain due to a body shot. I thought I was fully recovered but after another body shot today I had to leave the training session and have the same pain again.
Now I'm afraid that every body shot in that "soft" area puts me out of the gym, so I will buy a body protector for sparring sessions.
I want it to be as light and thin as possible, buy offering decent portection.
Which brand/model would you guys recommend?
Thank you!
Re: Body protector suggestion
Honestly, every body protector I've ever seen has been for trainer. So the bulkiness and padding dependent upon who is hitting them and likely how hard. Plus need for mobility etc. It prob exists out there for boxers, and I'll give it a bit of a look around, but yea. If you find some ideas drop them in here also. Curious.
Re: Body protector suggestion
Well, we have those taekwondo/sanda protector which seem slim and are suitable for kicks, so I understand the give some sort of protection.
For example:

Never wore some of them anyway, so I can't guarantee.
Re: Body protector suggestion
right, that link didn't work out for you. but this is what you were going for?
Cuerpo - Tienda Artes marciales, deportes de contacto, artes marciales mixtas, guantes de boxeo, judogi, dobok
Sure I don't see why not. I mean, it will inhibit movement no matter what, but the lighter and less restricting in a trade off for protection when sore with cage injuries makes sense to me.
Re: Body protector suggestion
go to google and type in Evoshield. Pretty sure that's what Mayweather has hidden under his shirt while in the gym
Re: Body protector suggestion
yea that's interesting. I can see how it would work well for baseball. not sure how it translates to boxing but if PBF is using it, it likely does. https://www.evoshield.com/Evoshield-Technology-s/63.htm
you need full range of motion for a baseball swing, so.
Re: Body protector suggestion
It sucks to be out of the gym, anytime from the gym or training outside of the gym is bad. I wont comment on a body protector. Simply because I don't use one.
With out wishing to offend you, do you actually do ab exercises? Sit ups, twisted sit ups, hanging knee raises? These are just a few. You should do quite a few different ab exercises. To stop punches from messing with your internal organs.

I second that.... At least if I'm getting your meaning. ;)
There's an old saying in the Chinese Internal martial arts that's say's one should always train smart.
What that means is, is that if you injure yourself, then you can't train.
Still though.... Even outside of the gym one can and one should train... ALWAYS AND CONTINUOUSLY BE TRAINING!
Even if one is completely and totally sidelined.... One can always train one's mind.
Read, study, ponder deeply, and dream.
You'll discover things on your own that way, and anyway, ultimately, we all teach ourselves anyway because WE are the ones who live in OUR OWN bodies.
A coach is just a guide... You yourself are the real teacher.
Think of Bruce Lee.... He plagiarized most of the Tao of JKD when he was laid up in the hospital...
The old lemonade out of lemons routine...
Know what I mean?
Good luck OP!
Cheers!
Re: Body protector suggestion
Yeah you got the meaning. Basicly what I was saying when I typed that was. Any time taken out from training is bad. Doesn't matter if its in a boxing gym,at home, or training outside. All of which I do.
When I originally wrote the confusing sentence, I was in a rush to get ready to go to the gym!:)
