I don't think Gatti was shot. People forget he was riding a huge wave of popularity and was looked at as having evolved and rejuvinated his career under Buddy Mcgirt, and he was also a WBC 140 world champ (I know it was vacated by Kosta Tyszu, but still was a championship belt). Floyd was looked at as the smaller man coming up, and a lot of people were excited about this fight and thought Gatti's power and rough and tumble style would give Floyd problems.
Unfortunately for Gatti and fans, it was one of the most onesided PPV megafights of all time.
