Greenhill Boxing Gloves?

Hi guys N Gals, I have been doing researh on Greenhill boxing gloves. They are a British Boxing equipment company. From what I have researched they get very good reviews, excellent build quality, comfort, and performance. They last a long time...one review claiming 3 years, with loads of training each week. That review is over at sherdog.

As boxing is my main keep fit, past time, passion, I like to spend a little on the equipment. So I'm looking at picking up some Greenhill gloves. The model I was going to go for is Prince http://www.greenhillboxing.co.uk/ima...k_edited-1.jpg

They use lace and velcro for closing? Has anybody used this type of closing? As in the photo? Usually it is either lace or velcro. Which of course Greenhill also do. But I really like the look of these gloves.

The sales spill:- These gloves are leather construction with multiple layers of hand crafted quality padding mould. Velcro & Laces closing for extra support, Ideal on bags/pads and training , Sparring. Sizes: 14 - 16 OZ Color: Black

Honestly Dave, I don't know the brand but have all kinds of gloves from the best to the worst. Velcro, lace up, not,.the whole deal. If to be used for training anything lace up can be a huge pain in the ass. You nearly always want velcro just for ease of taking on and off. Plus 16 oz are usually best if to be for sparring also. Most multi-purpose. But you can get away with 14s so long as your gym allows sparring with them. We only ever used 16s tho. Protect both hands and your fellow members faces for the many rds of sparring you'll be doing.

Cheers Young. Yes I know about the difficulty in putting on and taking off lace gloves. But If you look in the Photo. The way Greenhill lace up is not the conventional lace up glove way. Which is why I asked the question, it does intrigue me. Greenhill isn't a new company Young...Its been around since the early 1990's. Has world wide distribution. Here's the Sherdog review Green Hill Boxing Gloves - Gym Review - Sherdog Mixed Martial Arts Forums. One review online puts these gloves just under Reyes....And above all else..Which is why I am interested in trying them. Like I said they get very good reviews. I use 16oz now for all my training. You are only aloud to use 16oz for sparring at my gym, and even then only gloves the gym approve, for all the reasons you mentioned ;)

I wonder if Greenhill was started by somebody that used to work for Lonsdale..

Edit, I guess one advantage of the Greenhill Prince glove is. If I don't like the laces, I could just remove them. As it has a Velcro strap..

Yea sounds good Dave. I know the Lonsdale get really good reviews also. It really depends where you live and availability too. Like I prefer these Rival boxing RS2V-Pro Sparring gloves - Velcro | Rival Boxing Gear and are my favorite gloves, because of the extra wrist protection and amount of padding. Plus are available for cheap for me w/ free delivery et in Canada. I often see the Lonsdale compared to them for quality, so imagine those likely are too.

Hi, those Rival gloves you use look really good. They would cost £95 in the UK. I've not seen anyone use Rival gloves in the UK or even talk about them. But they are availible. The reviews on line from the USA and Canada all say Rival produce good kit. I notice those pro rival sparring gloves have a long cuff. Which I favour over short cuffs. All the Tai gloves I've seen have short cuffs, which I dislike. But are very popular nowadays in the UK. I can see myself in the future picking up some Rival Pro sparring gloves :) Cheers for the heads up on Rival.

I have ordered the Greenhill Prince gloves. I'll let you know what I think of them initially. Then after brake in period and after a good few training sessions i'll update with an mini review.

Greenhill were / are one the main brands used in the UK by amateur boxers. You will find Greenhill equipment in virtually every gym in the country.

Greenhill amateur competition gloves are used at many shows up and down the country - great gloves. Also, most lads I know prefer Greenhill competition headguards to other AIBA approved headguards (i.e. Addidas, Top Ten, Everlast).

However, AIBA no longer approve them for competition so many clubs choose to buy other brands now (licence not renewed but we can still use them in the UK). I don't think this is anything to do with their quality or effectiveness.

Thats intereting remarks Rich, and some of what you say sounds very similar to the sales hype on the website...

I have been to amature bouts, and intercomps around here. And talk to a lot of boxers...The gym I go to isn't an amature gym. Its a pro gym...Where the membership isn't cheap. And the members arn't short of money. I have not seen one single Greenhill product used, whether that be gloves, head guard, hand wraps or boxing shoes. Not one member has talked about Greenhill either. The amature gym I used to goto didn't and still doesn't use any Greenhill kit.

I might put the word out to see what reply I get in the local area. Theres another intercomp coming up..with visiting gyms..

By far the most popular headguard use at my gym is Top Ten and Everlast. Gloves well most boxers have more than one set. And in all honesty are prepaired to pay a premium. Reyes are quite popular, Fairtex, Everlast, and Lonsdale, I won't list them all. One lad I spoke to last week was considering getting Grants. To put that into perspective, the cost of one pair of Grant gloves could buy you four pairs of Greenhill gloves.

Come on guys Green Hill is a well known brand. Green Hill is also the mater supplier of Internal Judo Federation. You can read this news here greenhillsport.com/blog/green-hill-sport-signed-ijf-master-supplier-2014-2017. I personally recommend my boxing students to use Green Hill products.

Mostly i bought stuff like gloves from proimpactsports.com but dunno greenhill is available there or not but can find it there!!
