Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
Wilder will fight Liakhovich August 9 in California or Alabama. Another step in the right direction for Wilder as Liakhovich has been in with better competition.
We haven't seen a lot of Wilder, so how do you think he will do against a struggling Liakhovich. Sergei has lost his last two fights.
I don't see anyone getting excited about this fight but I'd like to hear what you think anyway.

Awful!
Fighting a 37 year old with 5 losses and 4 KOs. Which wouldn't be so as but after 28(28.)-0-0 he should be stepping up.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
Stupid. Wilder is huge, athletic and can genuinely punch. You'd think this would get him some attention, but there is nothing else at all to deduct from a single fight he's had and this won't be any different. I'm always really dubious of this type of coddling, there is no reason he shouldn't have already fought a few guys who weren't there to lie down unless he is mega vulnerable.

There is a youtube clip of him getting dropped hard in the amteurs, although there is also the same thing for Tua by Savon.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
I'm ok with this fight. Briggs only stopped him in 12, Valuev couldn't do it so at least he should take Wilder some rounds and he did hold a version of the World Title. Best opponent thus far so he is stepping it, just at a snail pace.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
im ok with the fight too, wilder needs lots of fights
he's no chance of going anywhere at the minute

He was 30 when Briggs stopped him he's now 37.
This is NOT a step up.

From Audley Harrison? I respectfully disagree.

Maybe, but a 37 year old coming off of 2 losses.
Play the game, Harrison was a step backwards.
At the end of the day he's yet to be in a fight that's fair in terms of ability, he's been massively the favorite in every fight and this is no exception.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
Obviously there are better opponents out there, but Liakhovich isn't bad...hell I suggested Wilder fight Dominick Guinn just to get rounds in, Sergei is far better than Guinn. Sergei should last some rounds and should box decently enough to give Wilder work which he needs. If Wilder could get John Ruiz out of retirement I think that would be a good fight for him. Maybe Ruslan Chagaev in the future.
Wilder needs experience and eventually he'll need experience vs a puncher or vs a guy who has the chin or defense that's able to handle his power. Wilder has fast powerful hands but he needs experience.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
The first opponent Wilder has that brings anything to the table.
Wilder should have been past this point by now, but he's not
and therefore, this is a reasonable opponent.
We'll at least be able to see if the coddling is merited or not.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
Meh, another ghost. Hey it's a name if anything and he should take a quick beating rather than totally sustained like his last two fights. Tip toe through the tulips ever so quietly.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
Chisora was the perfect fight for him...shame that didn't happen
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Sergei Liakhovich
I don't buy into this type of career path is all. If Wilder has any chance of being a great HW, why can't he fight another young prospect and find out where he's at? A loss would be great experience for him as well, and if he couldn't handle it then he's not made of the right stuff anyways. It's not as if being undefeated is winning him high praise from anyone in the first place. Fight Jennings who just beat the crap out of Liakovich, now that would be a really good fight to see happen.
