Andre Ward getting the Rigo treatment from HBO
Ward and HBO are not seeing eye to eye as far as who he should fight.
Ward wants to take an easy fight but HBo is basically saing fuck off , we aint gonnna pay top dollar to see ur boring ass against bums. Hbo realizes that ward isn't marketable due to his boring style and personality so they aren't high on him. Plus he jumped ship to compete in the tournament on showtime so they see him as a traitor.
I applaud HBO for taking a stand. He's a boring fukin fighter

If a sport's best compeditors aren't allowed to compete on the biggest stage, that's when you know your sport is FUCKED.
Re: Andre Ward getting the Rigo treatment from HBO
Ward and Rigo are unappreciated they deserve better.

Exactly, although it's nothing new for boxing really. Imagine the equivalent of this in any other sport, it's beyond ridiculous.

They need to take the path of another boring fighter in Hopkins.. Just keep winning and and hopefully they'll land something big.
Re: Andre Ward getting the Rigo treatment from HBO
Rigondeaux is not a boring fighter, unless you find boxing in itself boring. He is a beautiful counter puncher and ring general, has power and never fights dirty. If they can't line up solid matchups for him it's going to be because he's that much better than whoever HBO wants to put him in with.
Re: Andre Ward getting the Rigo treatment from HBO
I attribute it more to a shortsighted network with a diva mentality than I do the sport. Hbo is simple minded and seemingly desperate. Making Donaire-Darchinyan 2 at this point? come on, thats almost an insult to fans. For way to long they've been treated like they are THE only show in town. Ward is coming off a massive stage on its chief rival Showtime and Rigo just schooled one of their poster boys in Donaire. I think Showtime is passing them by.

Come to think of it you're dead right, this may not even be bad news unless Ward or Rigo get stuck in some kind of dispute and can't land anything for a while? If HBO are more interested in showcasing their leftovers, it may only serve Showtime.
Re: Andre Ward getting the Rigo treatment from HBO
Is it any wonder why people take steroids and fight two divisions south of where they should be? These dumb asses would not know a boxing match if it was happening in their own living room.
Re: Andre Ward getting the Rigo treatment from HBO
Not for nothing but I can see their point. They pay fees, and the costs of televising. They demand product and payoff for their investment. I could be biased though. I'm not a fan of ward. Rigo, i'm on the fence about. Truth be told, if ward was doing to everyone what he did to Dawson, then this wouldn't be an issue. If Rigo didn't spend so much time on his bike, this wouldn't be an issue either. Styles make fights, but knockouts and action make money. HBO is not in it to appeal to the the boxing purists, they're in it to make money. Now take that for what its worth, but a fighter like Floyd realized that as his legs started to go, he could get on his bike and and try to pick apart a fighters or he could start fighting out of the center of the ring and use his defense prowess to walk guys down, his speed to get off first and his feints to dictate his opponents offense by baiting them into throwing punches and countering. Its not ring generalship, defense or footwork that HBO is against. Its a passive approach and the wait and see mentality that has them closing their wallet. After the GBP fighters jumped ship and went to showtime, HBO is short on patience for primadonnas who's first priority is "what they deserve". Sucks, but it is what it is.

Look just roid up the masses and put freaks in 30 second highlight reels. Make it like ordering a hamburger at a drive through. Oh the quality of the pugilism.
