Georgetown Lake
Took the dog out there this morning just at sunrise.

Usually, I take the road that runs right along the lake shoreline. If nobody is fishing, I let the dog swim for a bit, then wonder why I do such things when she gets in the car and shakes. But this morning I was feeling good; between Anaconda and the lake, I had already seen 15 deer, all does and fawns. This is more than triple the average number for that stretch of road.
So I took the road that runs on the hills above the lake, #402 on the map. I didn't see more deer, at first, but I did see two people taking a walk and bother were older than I am, which is even more rare than seeing deer. I let the dog out and threw a stick for her; she is getting old, too, so I only had to throw it 15 or 20 times. A few years ago, I'd have had to keep throwing until I needed elbow surgery.
I had a feeling that I was going to see something really good, so when I got to 672- these are dirt road- instead of turning left and heading home, I took a right. I didn't go towards the reservoir, as was my initial plan, but kept on 672, heading towards Highway 38 (a paved highway). And I saw them...Four mule deer bucks, their antlers still in velvet.
Two of them were probably 4 years old; one, a truly magnificent animal, may even have been 5. The other two were younger. They crossed the road and went down an embankment, and just stayed there. They were probably no more than 40 feet from me for at least 2-3 minutes. Made my day.
And on the way home, I saw a third person walking, and he was older than I as well.

Re: Georgetown Lake
So one of the couple was an old dear.:)
Sounds great, you knew you'd see something special and sure enough you did.
Love those intuitive days.

Re: Georgetown Lake
Sometimes that happens out in the water in the summer when waves are slow,so you paddle off from the crowd where its breaking best and out of the nowhere comes the wave of the day and its right on where you just felt you had to paddle off to;D. People think others are at one with the ocean when that goes down, but its more than that, works in traffic sometimes in the betting shop and out walking .

Re: Georgetown Lake
I went out again this morning. Only 5 deer, all of them within the city limits of Anaconda. At the lake I saw a cow moose and her calf. The mother was huge- even for a moose she was very large. trying to think of someplace to go this afternoon that isn't affected by fire in some way.
